It's a wonderful ceremony. Anyone else watching. What a news day. Bush looks wonderful. Even Chirac rose the the occassion and gave a very nice speech. 14 Legion of Honor medals were given to veterans from 14 countries. Not sure I can name them all. The military parade was interesting. Really awesome to see for military buffs. The overflights are taking place now and very impressive.
BTW, which nation sent the "3 Musketeers"? I didn't recognize the flag.
The boats and ships are going by now to the sound of massed bag pipes. Very impressive.
I love a Parade. I hope CSPAN plays this again and again, as there will not be a 70th celebration.
Earlier MSNBC was covering the ceremonies (and then broke away).
They had a stage group (choral singers/actors). In the background (on those tall pillars) were actual video and images from D-Day. The pillars acted as projection screens. Some sections made it appear, looking out toward the ocean, as if one were standing on the beach, watching the boats of soldiers landing. To add reality, several planes were actually flying inward--vintage WW 2.
It was chilling to watch. A lot of brave men gave their lives that day.
Those colored smoke trails the French pilots are doing are very impressive.
C-Span just broke away.
CSPAN just cut away...to booknotes.
Too bad none are carrying the fully ceremonies [without interruption or talking heads].
Reagan delivers one more gift to the nation and the Republicans.
I am amazed at the coverage Sky News has had today. They have been live since early in the morning, and has been uninterupted LIVE all day without even commercial breaks.
I'm jealous. We have to surf around to get bits and pieces. Even C-Span thinks some third rate author who wrote a book no one read is more interesting. We still need a better news network.
You liked Chirac's speech??? He basically ignored the US listing almost every other country who even thought about the war. Then he went on to say what a great job the Free French did and how woundedrful it is to have a one world order of peace guranteed by the UN!!! Give me a break already. This was just another effort by the effete French to try and suggest that they are important and that the US isn't. The reality is that US bore the brunt of freeing a dying Europe and saving Western Civilization. The only other countries who ponied up willingly were in fact the British Empire. While the Russians fought in the East it was to prevent German expansion not to return freedom to those enslaved. AS usual modernist revision is rife...To hell with France To hell with Chirac and frankly the rest of the worlkd can do what it wantsd. If we need to go it alone so be it...I thought the only portion that was moving and honest was the standing ovation that the heroes of DDay received
Does SkyNews have an Internet streaming feed?
Yeah, I noticed those things too. It just could not upset me given the context.
They did during the Iraq war, but if it is still up and running I don't know.
Schroeder and Chirac are speaking at the moment. It was a bit weird to hear them play Deutchland Uber Alles.
I am stunned at CSPAN's coverage these last few weeks.
What is Brian Lamb thinking?
