LAX Gunman Linked to al-Qaida Element in Egypt

(AgapePress) - An Israeli-based intelligence website -- Debka.com -- is alleging that there was definitely a terrorist link in the July 4 incident at Los Angeles International Airport.
Assist News quotes Debka as saying that the gunman who killed two people at the El Al ticket counter -- 41-year-old Hashem Mohammed Hadayat -- was a Muslim extremist who belonged to the Egyptian Jihad, the operational arm of al-Qaida. Among other things, Debka says Hadayat maintained undercover links to the same Jihad cell in Brooklyn, New York, that was behind the 1993 terrorist attack at the World Trade Center.
According to the website, Hadayat was no stranger to the L.A. airport, having worked there between 1993 and 1998 for the American Mercury Ground Service. His activities at that time aroused suspicions amongst El Al security -- to the point that it asked the company to arrange Hadayat's schedule so he would not be at the airport at times when El Al flights were being serviced.
Debka also alleges that Hadayat was good friends with Gameel el Batouty, the co-pilot of the Egyptair flight that plunged into the Atlantic Ocean in 1999 killing all 217 people on board. Batouty was at the controls when the plane went into its dive, and on the voice recorder he was heard shouting in Arabic, "I put my faith in Allah!" That flight originated in Los Angeles.
