Please go outside and put out your flag. Let the world know we loved thia president and his beliefs....
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds -- and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of -- wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
--John Gillespie Magee, Jr. (1922-1941)
The correct etiquette is half staff for 30 days after the death of a President or Former President.
Done
The tails of that black shirt were too long anyway.
Looking for a ribbon now. However it's pouring rain here in NVA and has been all day - is it still ok to put the flag out?? Forgive me if this is a dumb question.
I've been flying mine since 9/11, and intend to keep it up until the war is over, but I certainly second the sentiment.
Reagan's death today immediately brought back an unforgettable moment a few years ago during my visit to Berlin. On my morning run, I came the Brandenburg Gate and ran through it. Before Reagan, we used to see newsreel footage of that gate surrounded by barbed wire and made part of the Wall. East Berliners who tried to run through it were shot at, and most of them never made it. But on the day I was there the Brandenburg Gate was a place of peace. It was Ronald Reagan who made it so.
He is our cousin, cousin; but 'tis doubt,
When time shall call him home from banishment,
Whether our kinsman come to see his friends.
Ourself and Bushy, Bagot here and Green
Observed his courtship to the common people;
How he did seem to dive into their hearts
With humble and familiar courtesy,
What reverence he did throw away on slaves,
Wooing poor craftsmen with the craft of smiles
And patient underbearing of his fortune,
As 'twere to banish their affects with him.
Off goes his bonnet to an oyster-wench;
A brace of draymen bid God speed him well
And had the tribute of his supple knee,
With 'Thanks, my countrymen, my loving friends;'
As were our England in reversion his,
And he our subjects' next degree in hope.
Richard II, Act 1, Scene 4
William Shakespeare
that is up to you, there is no restriction, just show respect to the flag.
Y'all convinced me that it was okay, though--LOL!
Mine has been lowered and will be for some time to come
At half mast...
The last great president (no offense President Bush) has passed into God's waiting arms. May he be blessed in his eternal reward, and may his family know God's love and peace in their time of sorrow.
My flag is lowered . I had just bought an old photograph at an antique store of President Regan in cowboy attire. I have it in my front window with candles on either side.
From the site you link.
I'll have to keep the local officials on their toes.
Done, flag flying on the front porch.
To a great man and one of the greatest presidents, Salute!
E.C. and family
I'm leaving mine there for 30 days.
One neighbor is of a similar mindset and the other can come complain, if he dares.
Poor old thing really needs retiring, I was gonna do it on flag day, but it needs it now. That's the problem with flying two flags, (Navy Jack under Old Glory). Navy Jack is much newer, so I don't pay attention to Old Glory above. 24hrs a day (lighted) in the Florida sun wears 'em out.
New flag tomorrow!
RIP President Ronald Wilson Reagan, your served your country well, and hold a place of high honor in our hearts.
