An ex-Marine friend summed up what I was feeling when I could not seem to put into words *why* I adored Pres. Reagan so.
He simply said "He made us all feel safe".
Since the last "administration", I've forgotten what that feels like.
I was 14 when he was elected ... but sharp enuff to know he was the right man for that time.
Instinctively, I despised what our country had become ... as a child, I watched images from Vietnam, and the anti-US hippies, and though I couldn't articulate why, I loathed the latter.
1980 was as key to the survival of this nation as 1776 or 1863 ...
I tried to explain to a younger brother that when Reagan was president, I didn't have to care about politics as if my life depended on it. I could just go about living my life as an American. When you saw his face on the television you could just smile and not always have to know the minutia. I don't think it will ever be that way again.
He also made us feel proud
