Reagan's Condition Worsening

Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

Breaking now on Drudge...

Reagan aide said that the former President has taken a turn for the worse. They don't think the end is imminent (not tomorrow). Staffers are being told to go about their business, to go on vacation if scheduled, DRUDGE has learned... After Reagan dies, streets near the house in Belair will be closed. There will be NO annoucement of death from the house. Someone will call the news wires and announce where there will be an on-camera statement... Networks are preparing obits... MORE...

I have the short reply tucked away safely and from time to time my kids ask me to get it out and we talk about who Ronald Reagan was.

Conjures up a touching image. What a wonderful thing it is that you're able to share that letter and thrilling childhood memory with your own children. A sweet story.

God bless the family, and give Pres. Reagan strength and comfort.

I, too, am sobbing.

President Reagan and Nancy side-by-side in the announcement he stated that he would no longer be in the public eye is one of the most elegant moments in all of human history. (Thanks, MJY for posting that in #268)

God, I love that man, and recall as one of the most important things in human history the hope he almost single-handedly renewed in America.

As I said earlier, I fervently hope that God sees fit to give to him a twenty-one gun salute. I know of no person who has deserved that more.

I sat down and started to tell my daughter (age 9), about Mr. Reagan. I had stop because I was getting all choked up.

I'm 18 years old, and while I truly didn't experience President Reagan's presidency, I can say he has been a role model for me despite my age. For one, my family were in the Solidarity movement in Poland. My dad was in jail for a year under martial law (there's your tolerant liberals!) and thanks to President Reagan, my parents and my family were able to move to America as he granted my family amnesty.

Awesome tribute!

Mr Reagan quietly destroyed the USSR at Reykjavik.

And against all of his advisors' advice. He had the option of effectively ridding the world of nuclear weapons, but he chose a greater good. Guided only by his conscience and by God, he instead chose to gracefully inflict the fatal blow on the most evil empire the world had ever known.

Do you know if President Reagan ever flew on the new Air Force Ones..the 747's? after he retired. I don't thinkso, and I would hope that President Bush sends one of them to bring the casket back to DC to lie in state. I for one, can think of no more fitting tribute, or visual image.

Don't mention them here. The thought of them defiles the place. Every single one of them would have to stand on their mothers shoulders to kiss Ronald Regans keister.

President Reagan, more than any other single person in history, defeated communism. I will give a bow to Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul, but Reagan's unswerving devotion to his vision of how that would best be done stands at the very pinnacle of historic significance.

God bless him.

Don't pray for him to stay - pray that he may go when it is his time. If that time is now, it's in God's hands.

It will be hard on his family, but also something of a relief to know that he is at last at peace and that God will restore his health and mind and memory forever.

My grandfather died by inches of Alzheimer's. The most painful time was when he still had lucid intervals and realized that his mind was going. After he had completely lost his mind, the only people who were suffering were his family and friends. His death was sad, but I was glad to see my mother and father's suffering end.
