Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

Just catching up at the end of the thread. Great pics, many thanks for posting. A question, if you please. Listening to the reports that the German PM will lay a wreath at the British memorial. When Reagan went, didn't he lay a wreath at a German cemetary, and wasn't there a huge "manufactured" media stink about it>

I love that man. It was he who shook me out of my 70's induced apathy and got me involved. I am proud to say that the first vote I ever cast was for Ronald Reagan.....as was the second!

haven't been paying attention to previous Presidential funerals. What will be the scheduled events most likely?

First Reagan's body will be tranported to DC where he will Lay in State in the Capitol Rotunda (I think 72 hours), there will then be a procession to Andrews AFB where his body will be loaded on AF One and returned to California, another procession as his body is transported to the Reagan Library. The funeral will of course consist of Dignitaries from all over the world, and all the former Presidents will be invited. All former Presidents will be invited to speak if they so wish, more than likely Nancy will speak, maybe some other family memebrs and friends. President Bush will be called upon to give the main Eulogy, and President Reagan will be buried with full military honors.

This is going by previous Presidential burials.

Remember back in the late 90's when there were reports that Reagan had taken a turn for the worse. The thought of Slick eulogizing the Gipper, made everyone here ill, and caused huge prayer threads, which may have kept Reagan going..

Oh, I remember that very well, yes, there was definitely an "issue" about that!

If there isn't a real one, the media will just manufacture one.

Have been gone all morning, what a sad post to find. God bless our wonderful President Reagan, and minister to him as only His Holy Spirit can do.

Joanie..great letter..thanks for posting. was just on another thread, they were speculating about the next pope, who it might be..which made me think that soon, we'll have the inevitable jokes about the Gipper and the Pope arrive at the Pearly Gates together.....

Funeral security will be a nighmare. The Secret Service has the plans in place and are busy, but there is still a good chance that terrorists would love to strike at a time like this. Have a nation in mourning and then kick us when we are feeling grief.

Stay vigilant and stay alive.

I was one of the ones who prayed the stain did not have to give Ronaldus Eulogy. I also prayed mightily for Bush to win in 2000 so that I did not have to have a USAF Retirement cetificate with AlGore's name on it. As it is,I am still in (working on yr 23 now) and am now praying that I do not have to retire with John F-in Kerry's name on my Certificate.

Yup...as I recall they tried to imply it was as SS cemetary...funy how, when the Germans do it, it's "closure", when Reagan did it..it's deplorable..

My Dad's Mom had Alzheimer's for 12yrs here in Elizabethtown, PA. The lights were on, but no one was ever home. It was a relief to see her finally go be with God. I just pray that I don't ever go that way.

God bless you, Mr President and Nancy. RIP finally, Ron.

Well since I now have the dubious privilege of living right next door to Mr and Mrs. Stain, I know how you feel....and I, for one, wouldn't worry too much about Kerry winning..heck, he can't even find someone to run with him as VP..

Yea, I overstated the comparison. Anderson was a "small" man by historical standards. I understand that he still calls himself an "independent," but in IL, I imagine that he mostly votes Democrat.

When a stage star passes away, it is traditional for the lights on Broadway to be dimmed in tribute.

When President Reagan's time comes, I think a fitting tribute might be for Free Republic to "go dark" for an hour, just displaying his picture but accepting no posts. That hour might be immediately after the news, or during the funeral, or such other time as is deemed to be appropriate.

Just a thought, however morbid it may be.

Well, that reminds me of another photo, from a meeting in Miami in 1987.

Great idea, I second it.

Not trying to create "work" for you...but if you have time and inclination to search for some of those old articles....probably the NY Times or WP files, many here might enjoy the "flashback"
