Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...
I hear you about the liberals and how they will make their snide remarks. Actually I dont expect C.Matthews to be one of them. His mom suffered from Altimers, and he has mentioned many times the class that President Reagan showed in his last goodby to America.
After the suffering this great man has endured he may finally find the peace he so deserves. And lets's not forget the class that Nancy and his family has shown. I shudder to think of the attention seeking and headline grabbing of a Clinton in this position. Instead the Regans have endured in privacy.
Reagan's greatest monument will be the legacy he leaves in the next generation. Those like myself who came of age during his administration are much more conservative than our parents because of it. Look at the attitude polls of the young and see how they compare, this is all due to Reagan.
God Bless Mr. President, its time to ride off into the final sunset
I agree but I'm going to raise it a notch. The libs *seethed* at Nixon's funeral. I look for them to get down right ugly in word and deed at Reagan's. I don't know why but their absolute, irrational hatred astonishes me. Ronald Reagan was not only a great President he is a good and honorable man. Yet they just adore Clinton.
Yes, Alzheimer's is so very hard on the families involved. I didn't mean to seemingly overlook that in my previous comment.
No I think Mathews will show some respect, but he may rip Bush in a compare/ contrast way.
I read one of his books. He had an entire chapter on President Reagan. It was quite complimentary.
I'm so glad I'm a FReeper, today, sharing this time with FRiends...
The fact is, if Reagan goes, God forbid, it will remind people of the kind of positive, patriotic point of view we loved about Reagan, and that will benefit Bush. There is no harm in admitting or exploiting that.
That said, it will be a punch in the gut when Reagan goes. A giant of a man, and a superb President. Hard to describe what he meant to me. I worked on both his campaigns and to a large degree he shaped my politics.
I have tears streaming down my face, just as I did on the day he was shot. I have such a crystal clear picture of that day, of turning on the radio and hearing the news. I was in college at the time and called my mom immediately. Not many words passed in our conversation. Just tears and disbelief. It seems so long ago, and then again, like it was yesterday. Those raw emotions return today.
We love you Ron and Nancy. You made America proud again.
God bless you and grant you peace.
You may be right.
Reagan and his ideas somehow appealed to me, but being a know-it-all 20 year old, I didn't believe that we would see any real solutions, perhaps slight improvements. This was just past Watergate and Vietnam, and cynicism was rampant. But, damned if Reagan was right about everything he said. The man's instincts were always spot on. The man made me a believer in conservative principles. God bless you Mr. Reagan, and God speed.
Oh yes. Everything about those 8 years that can be spun as a "negative" will be cleverly interwoven with any coverage of his death or funeral.
I fully expect that they will also trace any current national problems to the Reagan era, thus attempting to tarnish his legacy as well as his presidency.
Wonderful story :)
I, too, was age 20 in 1980. But, you had more sense than I. I was for Anderson (remember him?).
Only about 1987 or 1988 did I come to realize what a great man and president Reagan was.
That is my favorite picture as well.
They adore Clinton because he weakened America, and America is an evil fascist, imperialist country
As an enormous admirer of Reagan and a lifelong Notre Dame football fan, I second that suggestion wholeheartedly.
Special permits were given years ago for Ronald and Nancy Reagan to be the only persons buried on the grounds of the Reagan Library in Simi Valley.
