Who do ya'll think should run for President after George W leaves office?
I would add George Allen and Bob Ehrlich to your list.
See my post #20 ;-)
So Dubya hasn't perfromed up to your expectation since 9/11/01? Who would you put forward?
Sheesh, the GOP would be insane to nominate any officeholder from Massachusetts.
Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb!! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb!
Rice / Judge Moore

LonePalm, le Républicain du verre cassé (The Broken Glass Republican)
NO Rudi.
Don't know if Condi supports abortion on demand. If she does, then NO Condi. I think Pataki's a pro-choice too.
Bill Owens/Haley Barbour. Good choice.

As to who has a good shot if they did run, I'd eliminate Condi Rice and Jeb Bush. Rice has no experience running for electoral office, and jumping to the most challenging electoral race of all is not the way to learn. Jeb Bush will discover that neither the party nor the country are inclined to elect a Bush for the third time in four presidencies (yes, I'm assuming a W win in '04). Spooks people about aristocracy and dynasty.
Likely "moderate" challengers (I think of them more as liberal Republicans) would have to include Colin Powell, John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani. These have to be the powerhouses, should they choose to run (and each one of them has serious reasons not to).
From the conservatives, I'd look to a number of governors and Senators. It's far too early to tell whom among them would even consider it, let alone be able to mount a serious campaign.
I still think the powerhouses to watch are the first three. And of course, should there be a Constitutional Amendment passed to allow foreign born citizens to become president, Arnold Schwarzeneger would move to the front of the list.
Here we go! Owens/Watts in 2008. However Cheney should step down in 2006 for 'health reasons' and Watts should be nominated to finish the term. He wont run for president in 2008, but will be open for the vice. This gives the repubs semi-incumbant status. Rice is good, but I want her to get elected to something first, to learn the election part of it.
Lucky for you :-)
(BTW, many here are not, that's the scary thing...)
Tom Delay and Bob Erlich.
Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb!! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb! Jeb!
Rice-Giuliani '08
It is time for another Reagan!!!
If we could forgive him for Toomey, what about Rick Santorum? He could do penance by endorsing Toomey for his vacant Senate seat (that is if he resigned it).
We're totally doomed if these candidates (and posters) represent what's become of the "party of smaller government" that used to have a pro-life plank.
Never mind what's become of the forum.
