I'm glad you told your story. My uncle was a navigator on a B-17 and was shot down and spent time as a POW, but I didn't know the details. Your post inspired me to try a search, so I googled 8th Air Force and a couple of links later I found a list of bomber groups. I took a wild guess and clicked on 381st. There he was! Walker, Lawrence D., 2nd Lt. He was shot down 11 Jan 44. It gives the other crew members (all POW) and the destination.

I wish I could find similar information about my father, who fought in New Guinea and on Leyte Is. He went MIA on Christmas 1944 and was later hopitalized from Jan 45 until April 46. He died in 1958 when I was 5, so I never got to talk to him about his war experiences.

You may be able to find a picture of his air crew. Do a search using the pilots name such as Harry S. Cook crew

The 381st web site is perhaps not quite as well organized as that of the 303rd, but I did track down the following (perhaps you did too) :

Pilot: Chason
Squadron: 533rd ( squadron letters "VP" )
Radio Call Letter: V
Aircraft: B-17F Serial #:42-3514
Name: Dinah Might II (aka Doll Baby)
Tail Number: 23514 (from serial number)

Unfortunately, there is no picture of the plane or its nose-art. If your uncle has one, it would be a fine addition for the site, I am sure.
