Part of SLC Police Dept. Evacuated (Salt Lake City, UT - June 9th)

Jun. 9, 2004 (KSL News \ AP) -- Authorities have evacuated part of the Salt Lake City Police Department to investigate a possible hazardous material.

A woman walked into the lobby of the station this morning and showed the desk sergeant a piece of cardboard. Fire officials say the woman brought a piece of cardboard into the police station this morning saying something on it was making her sick. An officer who smelled the cardboard also got sick.

Authorities evacuated the lobby and called a hazardous materials crew to investigate. The Haz-Mat team tested the air, wrapped the cardboard in plastic and sent it to the health department for testing. Fire officials say the officer and the woman were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but appear to be fine.

The fire department is also checking out the woman's home, located near 275 E. Westminster Ave. No one else was hurt. There's no word on what may be on the cardboard. Link to Article
