US planes, copters intrude in Pak airspace | |
FROM OUR Correspondent MIRAN SHAH Despite strong assurances that in future no incursion into Pakistani territory would be made the US aircraft fighters and choppers entered into Pakistani airspace Thursday night, which again raised eyes brows about their collective war against terrorism. Independent sources confirmed that on Thursday night some US aircraft throughout the night remained in Pakistani airspace. 'However, no report of firing rockets at the target was reported. Intensifying the hit and run policy against the allied forces on Thursday conducted a raid on a patrolling party killing 6 US soldiers who had sustained serious bullet injuries, while 4 attackers lost their lives on the spot. Besides, during the raid the attackers probably Taliban guerilla also damaged 2 vehicles. It merits to mention here that time and again US troops intruded into the Pakistani side in their hot pursuits against Taliban and al-Qaeda members and Islamabad protested several times with Washington which has been saying such incursions took place due to porous borders. Both sides stressed upon the need for having more meetings at local levels for better coordination and understanding. On last Thursday meeting the commanders of both sides had agreed to do the utmost for ending border uncertainty and it was decided during the meeting that route in and rout out would also be checked effectively. |
There has to be some kind of understanding going on here...we intrude..... they protest... we intrude. We wouldn't risk an international incident....unless we have been assured it is ok.
Or we're just sick of the BS and don't really care anymore.
What're the Pakis gonna do? Return our money or stop taking it? I doubt it. These protests are purely pro forma.
Also, There are half a dozen virtual US bases on their soil.
MIRANSHAH: US warplanes and Apache helicopters violated Pakistans air space near Shawal area of the tribal belt on Pak-Afghan border in the North Waziristan Agency hours after a flag meeting among US, Pakistani and Afghan officials at Lawara Mandi on Thursday evening, in which the US military officers regretted violation of Pakistans territorial jurisdiction and promised not to repeat the same in future.
The key to understanding this issue and how it will likely be resolved, is that U.S. forces have been crossing the border only in hot pursuit, during an active fire fight (and its aftermath), rather than simply during patrol or hunter/killer missions.
This second map is just to orient yourself to the area shown in the first map. Miran Shah is located just north of the letter "S" in the city named Sargodha.
Enjoy!

Sounds like bogus propaganda to me.
The stupid thing is that Musharraf would love to allow cross-border crossings to kill the people who have already tried to kill him at least twice. These protests are all about internal politics and trying to keep these ridiculous tribal regions stable.
I agree with you on what is happening - American SOF are only crossing the border during direct engagements (for the most part) - we are not operating using hunter/killer missions on the Pakistan side -
The fact is, come hell or high-water we better start doing exactly this. It is foolish this has gone on this long - We are at War - we know were are enemies are running to and hiding at - that being the Pakistan side of the border region -
We must go in there and get this guys. Period. Al Zawahiri, Omar and perhaps UBL have all been allowed to live far too long - It is time for the "higher-ups" in our military to grow a pair and let loose the dogs of war (our special operations personal) within Pakistan - The fact is Pakistan cannot control there side of the border - Musuraiff (sp) is a good man and I think he has all but "openly" welcomed us to come in and clean house - it is on our side where the hesitation has been.
Forces, Militants Clash at Afghan Border
I am looking at the maps Boot Hill gave us.
6 U.S. KIA?! No way. What units are assigned to that area? Marines? 10th Mountain Div?
reminds me of an old British WW2 song "Let's Not Be Beastly to the Germans". Maybe it can be rewritten as "Let's Not Be Beastly To the Ragheads".
Nothing like a $6 pak to forget your troubles.
