Here is the text of Sl Gore's speech at the Pont du Hoc
"This was an unmitigated disaster. Our intelligence was terrible. We should have known that the guns weren't in place. And why did we have to go in alone? without any allies..and Hitler wanted to negotiate, he was reasonable about Czeckoslovakia, after all....he wasn't so bad..all those stories about "concentration camps", and millions killed...and WMDs..heavy water plants..no proof of it. this was totally unnecessary and BTW, I support our troops"

We will pray forever that some day that changing will come. And it did. Thanks to God in Heaven, to the forsight and commitment of the Gipper, and to the prayers and actions of faithful patriots thoughout our land.
Reagan, the quinessential President of the 1900's.

Seeing the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, knowing what those Rangers did, was one of the most moving experiences of my life (along with visiting some of the American cemeteries - both WWI and WWII - in France).

Thank you for posting this. Having once stood in the gun emplacements at Pointe du Hoc and looked down the cliff to the tiny beach below, I find it incomprehensible that any of those brave Rangers made it to the top, much less that they captured the position. The mere thought of what they did that day sends a chill through my spine, but it sure as hell makes me proud to be an American.

Contrast this with the Sinkmeister's silly game with the pebbles ten years later.
