Hamden, Connecticut-AP -- Who's more of a regular guy?
A national poll indicates President Bush has the edge over Democratic rival John Kerry in that category.
The poll says more registered voters surveyed would rather have a barbecue with Bush than Kerry. Half picked Bush as the man they'd rather flip burgers and drink beer with, while 39 percent chose Kerry and eleven percent didn't know or wouldn't answer the question.
More voters surveyed would also trust Bush to run the family business. But they were evenly split on whether they would rather have Kerry or Bush teach their kids. They were also evenly split on who to vote for.
The poll from Quinnipiac (KWIN'-ihp-ee-ak) University questioned more than eleven-hundred registered voters this month. It has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
Bush's personal charm, likability and resoluteness versus Kerry's French-looking aloofness, Boston Brahmin blue-bloodness and spineless flip-flopping. Hmmmmmm...
Bush wins another term, no doubt.
Don't see how this would even be close. Kerry, like Gore, acts as if he were made of wood. Bush is a regular guy and Laura is a classy First Lady. Tuh REZA is another Hillary.
Oh, I don't know. Haven't most regular American men married two wealthy wives, the second worth over half a billion dollars?
If somebody called me up, interrupted my day and asked me questions like this, I'd hang up on them.
I've done my fair share of complaining about the President. However, his 'regular guyness' for lack of a better term, is one of his greatest strengths. I doubt he'd spend an afternoon in bar with be drinking beer, I believe he *could*.
Kerry has such a 'don't you know who I am?' attitude that will probably turn off many potential voters.
However, many voters are led around by the nose, and I think the Bush campagin may be in trouble. I hope I'm wrong.
Kerry doesn't flip burgers, he nibbles on Froi Gras!
And this means... ? Yeah, Bush seems like a regular guy. Yeah, I'd rather have him as a neighbor. But, is that really a qualification for President of the United States?
I got it, let's just have them arm wrestle to see who gets to be President!
If I were in the mood for some quiche or a fondue, I think I think I'd have to go with Kerry.
Not even a high-fiber diet can make Kerry a more regular guy.
This is only close because people haven't seen enough of Kerry. His friends in the media have been keeping hom out of the spotlight and only covering his words. This is going to be like Dukakis redux. Once people really get a load of Kerry they are going to run from him like the plague.
Thats why i believe that President Bush will kill kerry in the debates , just like he did gore , kerry will look like a stuffy old prude and that will hurt him with the swing voters.
Who cares. Which of them thinks it's cool to put you out of work and send your job over to the chinese? Which of them thinks it's cool to tax the daylights out of you? They've both got their bad points and good. Kerry has more bad than good; but, I doubt we'll see any real debate in coming months.
Kerry needs to have a rectal exam.
Something must be shoved up there because he is so still stiff all the time.
But this is how George Bush Sr. lost the elections of 92. Clinton seemed more like a regular guy than Bush. However, Pres. George W. Bush seems like a much more regular guy than his father and John Kerry.
IT wasn't about being a "regular guy" it was about knowing what the regular guy was dealing with. GW could be made to look like a "regular guy" just as anyone else might be able to. The real question is does he know the impact that policy really has on us and does it matter to him. You can't tell that by hearing him quote back the price of a gallon of milk. You can tell it in his policies. And that is among his weaker points. His policy on free trade cost me my job. There are many that want to handwring about that and try to say he isn't responsible for the consequences of his own policies. But I'm not the only one. Most of America out there is worried about their jobs in the near and long term because of free trade. And that don't make Bush look like a "regular guy". I want our party in office; but, not if they pull crap like free trade.
I wouldn't vote for Kerry on his best day. But those are the two choices I'm given by the two party system. Last I checked, this is a free country and should have more choice that A) I'm screwed B) I'm screwed.
This is gonna be a close Election even with a piece of crap like Kerry running. That should be a wakeup call, but, some are more concerned with money and power than with right and wrong or what's good for the Country. If you haven't guessed, yes, I've become a cynic.
Could be Lemmiwinks.
I'm from Massachusetts and am now retired in Florida. I lived four blocks from John Kerry's manse.
During the administration of William Weld, the Republican governor of Massachusetts, the Boston Globe did a story on the Kerrys and the Welds. Weld, like Kerry, is a patrician.
The Globe's story reported on the differences between the Kerry's and the Welds.
When the Welds were invited to dinner, they, Mr and Mrs Weld, would help clear the table after eating and assist the hosts in the kitchen. They were real people.
The Kerrys, on the other hand, only lifted a finger to pick up the fork or the wine glass.
There is nothing democratic about John Kerry at all, end of story. But to be successful in politics in Massachusetts, you join the Democratic Party.
A simple list of Massachusetts' Democrat accomplishments:
Jerry Studds - Censured in the well of Congress for buggering Congressional pages who were minors.
Barney Franks - Inviting "hot buns" Gobey to live in his home, out of which Gobey ran a homosexual escort service.
Ted Kennedy - Mary Joe Kopechne, DOA.
John Kerry - The murder of a Viet Cong fighter.
