Mud just drafted me to come over and defend Kerry, and I thought it would be fun to debunk some of this smear going around about him -- these "weapons of mass distraction" by the GOP, as my friends like to call them.
Knowing reason would fail, I simply said, "Well, I can't support anyone that favors gay marriages." She replied that she was appalled at gay people getting married. Told her Kerry supported it; she's now back in the Bush column. And of course I agree - these types like my SIL should have NEVER been given access to a voting ballot.
You seem like a nice enough guy/girl, so I'm curious -- why are you against gay people getting married? If you don't want to get into it, that's fine -- there'll probably be a handful of others here who'll answer that question for you. =)
Marriage is the holy union between one man and one woman, always has been, always will be. I've got no problem with two men or two women pledging their everlasting love to each other, but it ain't a "marriage." A marriage is what it is...period.
If gay couples want to exchange vows, call it something else--how 'bout "coupling"?--and then go about the process of attaching whatever legal rights gays feel they are being denied to the term "coupling". I'll tell you right now that I'm against gays adopting, but I don't see where other rights can't be passed on relatively quickly.
