-"Clearly, the war on terrorism is working. Since taking the fight directly to the terrorist where them train and operate, their ability to engage in terrorism has been genuinely crippled, with the number of international terrorist incidents at historic lows since the Bush administration began its systematic effort to root out terrorism worldwide."

Notice the post-9/11/01 DROP?! Wanna rethink yer argument?!
"If you mean the right thing for the Iraqi people, the jury's still out on that one. We've removed a murderous dictator from power over them, but it looks like innocent people are still being tortured just like they were before.
Say what?!! Iraqis used to be raped, maimed, and murdered by Saddam...and you wanna equate THAT with a half-dozen LeftWing would-be sado-masochists taking pictures of Iraqis doing perverted things a half-year ago?! Puh-LEEEZE...
"And who knows what kind of government Iraq will have five years from now (much less five months from now)? It's not that unlikely that it could be even worse then the dictatorship that came before it. As my magic 8-ball says, "Outlook not so good."

BTW...thanks fer joining the Black threads, it is already apparent that debunkin' yer Lefty nonsense will do wonders fer my synergy level.
No, because those numbers don't tell the whole story. In the same report, look at the number of American casualties prior to 9/11 and after 9/11. During Clinton's watch, only 87 American casualties in eight years. (The report only has the 1998-2000 numbers -- 41 total -- so I'll have to find a link for the pre-1998 numbers). During Bush's watch, after 9/11, we have 67 casualties in less than three years.
Which makes perfect sense, if you think about it. The existence of a terrorist network (Al-Qaeda) that has gained in power since 9/11 has provided the money and resources to made the attacks more efficient in number of civilians killed. An increase in "quality" (if you want to call it that) of attacks means a decrease in quantity.
Whether or not it's been reflected in any numbers so far, the fact that we're practically giving Al-Qaeda a "home base" in Iraq, and making our own Al-Qaeda recruitment posters with the Abu Ghirab pictures, can't be too good for our safety.

It's more than a half-dozen sado-masochists, the responsibility for their actions appears to go all the way up to the top (i.e. Rumsfeld and Bush), and it's more than just perverted things. Physical torture and murder are two of the things currently being investigated at Abu Ghirab. Not just some "kids blowing off steam," as Rush would have you believe. Read the Seymore Hersh article on the whole thing and get back to me.

Self-representation is always better than oppression. The question is whether they'll be able to hold onto it in the long run.
The State Department is scrambling to revise its annual report on global terrorism to acknowledge that it understated the number of deadly attacks in 2003, amid charges that the document is inaccurate and was politically manipulated by the Bush administration.link
What's interesting here is that Powell actually agreed to reissue the report.
