Back to the topic at hand...why shouldn't we vote for Kerry? Or, more to the point, why should we vote for Bush? Here's an interesting tidbit from MyDD:

Yesterday when I estimated that half of the new jobs created in May were probably part time jobs, I was way off. In reality, 287% of the new jobs created in May were part-time jobs. Check out page ten of the new jobs report (Warning PDF file):

"Noneconomic reasons" means that the employees in question only wanted part-time work, and thus are not considered underutilized labor. "Economic reasons" means the opposite.

There are probably two main causes for the May surge in part time employment for non-economic reasons:

-College students starting part-time jobs over the summer
-The babies from the August 2003 blackout would have been born in May 2004, thus causing many people to switch to part-time employment to take care of their newborns.

No matter the causes, there were far more part-time jobs created in May than there were total jobs created in May. 712,000 part time jobs created minus 248,000 total jobs created equals 464,000 fewer people working full-time jobs in May than in April.

Overall, since February 949,000 part time jobs have been created. This number is almost identical to the total number of all jobs created since February, 947,000. According to the Department of Labor, over the past three months, full-time employment in this country has barely changed at all.

You can lie to people about a lot of things, but this is one thing you cannot lie to them about. They know that their economic situation is deterioating, through rising health care, energy, transportation, and housing costs. The only new jobs around are part-time jobs. The real wages of full-time jobs are not increasing, even though hours worked are.

That legislation was toothless and not worth the paper on which it was printed. Only a Constitutional Amendment to Mandate Balancing the Budget would have any hope of being successful.

Let's get back to this vacuous concept that Clinton's tax increase led to the improvement of the economy. What economic principle did Clinton's tax hike utilize to improve said economy? I'll answer that...NONE!! There is no commonly-accepted economic theory that supports this delusion that increasing tax rates leads to economic expansion...in fact, just the opposite has been proven true time and again!!

The Bush I Recession was a direct result of Dubyuh's Daddy's asinine decision to compromise with the DemonRATS and believe Dem BigSpenders when they PROMISED to decrease spending if Bush, Sr. raised taxes!! NEVER negotiate with DemonRATS becuz they LIE, CHEAT, and STEAL without any guilty conscience whatsoever!! However, the economic recovery that began while Bush the Elder was still in office was simply a continuation of the excellent economy which transpired since Reagan's tax cuts in the early-80's. If anything, Clinton's Tax Increase simply made that recovery more sluggish than it needed to be!!

Did you ever take any Macroeconomics classes in college? If so, I suspect you already know all this.

Actually, a lot of the folks I know in the construction industry are having record years. Personally, I'm in the process of selling off a coupla rental properties and buying a coupla more...I'm tickled pink that we've got such a bustling economy here in central Virginia.

One increase was very reluctantly and begrudgingly agreed to by RR.
He was promised, Sam, by your Democrat leaders of that time that for every one dollar increase in taxes, three dollars would be cut from federal outlays. Of course the latter never occurred.
This increase, you forgot to mention, was on corporation's profits.

What you liberals don't, and obviously never will, get is that for all the spinning of the facts and the outright lies you tell, especially regarding RR's two terms you forget that telling the American people that they really aren't better off just doesn't have any credence if they actually are better off.
And from the looks of RR's resounding victory over Fritz Mondale, I'd say that the American people weren't quite ready to buy any of the latest batch of Liberal Elixir.

As for the second tax increase you'll have to shake my memory on what that was.

Well, consider yourself lucky. You're well off enough to not have to worry about the same problems that people without a place to live, much less properties to buy and sell, have. I can give you lots of example of friends of mine in the IT industry, living all over the country, who are having trouble finding and keeping work these days. Some have lost their houses. Some have had to get jobs in the service-sector, usually two, to keep their heads above water. Health insurance is gone -- they can't afford COBRA -- and is getting more expensive for the ones that do have jobs.

NJ is actually doing better than most states in terms of job and economic growth, but still not great. I dislike Mcgreevey, but he's not the problem. As with so many other things in this administration, the problem starts at the top.

Actually, the Social Security and Medicare taxes were increased, not corporate profits. Also, in the same essay, it mentions that "The Reagan Administration and the split Congress also raised taxes in 1982, 1984, and 1986, although back then they were called 'revenue enhancements,' not tax increases." So I stand corrected: there were a total of four tax increases under Reagan, not two.

I don't know how begrudging the Republicans were or what was promised and what was delivered, but I do know the economy tanked soon after the 1981 tax cut, and didn't tick back up until the tax cuts was rolled back in the subsequent tax increases. Here's some charts that illustrate it for you:

It's real simple: Tax increases increase federal revenue, and tax decreases decrease federal revenue. Meanwhile, today's Republicans spend money like drunken sailors.
