One of my buddies from college became a herpetologist and spent considerable time in Southern Africa. He would agree 100% with you. Nobody could handle mambas the way they handle cobras. The mamba can come up over their body to strike. They're very fast and lithe, and they are killers. The Green less than the black, just because it is about half the size.

I was reared all over the world. My first encounters with poisonous snakes were Water Moccasins and copperheads. When I was five I found a recently hatched clutch of copperheads and put them into my bluejean pockets. When my mother washed them she looked into the washer and viola there were several floating baby pissed off copperheads. I didn't get a scratch...We then moved to Japan where I learned what a Tiger snake was. Yep, I brought one home and didn't get a scratch. We then moved to SE Asia, kraits have to gnaw on you to get a good bite so I got a reprieve. We then moved to South Texas...I learned that rattlesnakes didn't take any crap off anyone and the Coral snake lives in one's garage. I became a veterinarian and worked with reptiles at a few zoos. Mambas made me think twice. I don't do snakes anymore. I think the good Lord has looked after me enough.
