I was reared all over the world. My first encounters with poisonous snakes were Water Moccasins and copperheads. When I was five I found a recently hatched clutch of copperheads and put them into my bluejean pockets. When my mother washed them she looked into the washer and viola there were several floating baby pissed off copperheads. I didn't get a scratch...We then moved to Japan where I learned what a Tiger snake was. Yep, I brought one home and didn't get a scratch. We then moved to SE Asia, kraits have to gnaw on you to get a good bite so I got a reprieve. We then moved to South Texas...I learned that rattlesnakes didn't take any crap off anyone and the Coral snake lives in one's garage. I became a veterinarian and worked with reptiles at a few zoos. Mambas made me think twice. I don't do snakes anymore. I think the good Lord has looked after me enough.

Om my lord...your poor mother! How did she get the clothes out?
A friend of ours was a reptile dealer many years back & he had both a cobra & a black mamba. The black mamba escaped once due to a very stupid friend....that snake tracked them around the house. They were being hunted. Luckily, my friend was able to recapture it.

...Interesting post. I never did do venomous snakes. Lots of non-vens. They are facinating animals. In the CZ, I encountered a nest(?) of Fer de Lances'. The Bushmaster was another one to avoid down there...

Water moccassins are actually very docile creatures.
