there are traces of sarin, which have yet to be proven by more than a field test, I would say it was left over from time gone by. Of course that would be the sensible answer.

Here's a question for you.

How much deader can a 1 day old Binary GB 155mm arty shell make you than a ten year old Binary GB 155mm arty shell?

Here's a question for you. If you were the leader of a country, an out of touch leader at that, would you expect your army and scientists, in a nation the size of Iraq to have fully dismantled even to the point that not even a trace could be found? From the Fox News story online (you do still accept them to be reliable don't you? That is until they start disagreeing with standard administration press releases I guess...)

Kimmitt said the shell belonged to a class of ordnance that Saddam's government said was destroyed before the 1991 Gulf war (search). Experts believe both the sarin and mustard gas weapons date back to that time.

....

He said he believed that insurgents who rigged the artillery shell as a bomb didn't know it contained the nerve agent, and that the dispersal of the nerve agent from such a rigged device was very limited.

So the most probable story would be that

A) the terrorists didn't even know and
B) the material dated back to the the early 1990s

Now of course in a nation the size of Iraq I imagine a lot of things could get lost, miscounted, etc. Look at our own defense system. Could you expect, if held accountable, for every weapon, shell, bullet, to be presented for counting? But hold onto the theory that even the administration has discounted. Don't know when it may be needed as an excuse to invade someone else...

Of course when this comes back as a false positive, I'm sure you'll be ready to recount the jubilation you've shown over one shell
