Just now, looking for copy...
Nope. No panic at all. You sound a bit nervous though.
Ah, there you go drastically overestimating yourself. Now, while I wouldn't want to damage your self esteem, I should point out a minor little nuance that might have escaped your attention: Your defeatist opinion means about as much to me as a Barbara Streisand concert.
Thank you for calling me ignorant. I'm sure I will be willing to listen to YOUR arguments in the future.
I have presented opinions based on my knowledge of artillery and chemical weapons and how they work. I have asked for corrections from any more knowledgeable than myself in case my conclusions were in error. On another thread, an ex-Arty officer has stated that my theory is at least plausible.
YOU however, deign to simply call my conjectures "ignorant".
Thanks for you important input to this issue.
Oh, BTW, Welcome to Free Republic!
Actually, I didn't think that I was making you nervous. I'm sure that, as you say, my opinion is meaningless to you. Rather, you seem to be desperately clinging to this straw of a story.
An entirely reasonable theory, given that the U.S. military has millions of dollars worth of equipment that it cannot account for.
Good, you're only half as stupid as I thought; you're almost to Streisand levels.
Why, thank you sir ;-)
Here's a question for you. If you were the leader of a country, an out of touch leader at that, would you expect your army and scientists, in a nation the size of Iraq to have fully dismantled even to the point that not even a trace could be found? From the Fox News story online (you do still accept them to be reliable don't you? That is until they start disagreeing with standard administration press releases I guess...)
Kimmitt said the shell belonged to a class of ordnance that Saddam's government said was destroyed before the 1991 Gulf war (search). Experts believe both the sarin and mustard gas weapons date back to that time.So the most probable story would be that....
He said he believed that insurgents who rigged the artillery shell as a bomb didn't know it contained the nerve agent, and that the dispersal of the nerve agent from such a rigged device was very limited.
A) the terrorists didn't even know and
B) the material dated back to the the early 1990s
Now of course in a nation the size of Iraq I imagine a lot of things could get lost, miscounted, etc. Look at our own defense system. Could you expect, if held accountable, for every weapon, shell, bullet, to be presented for counting? But hold onto the theory that even the administration has discounted. Don't know when it may be needed as an excuse to invade someone else...
Of course when this comes back as a false positive, I'm sure you'll be ready to recount the jubilation you've shown over one shell
No, I would expect my Army to hide those weapons not destroy them. I would ask my friends in Syria to hide these weapons for me. I would count on my friends in the U.N. to do everything possible to protect me from the truth, and to provide my troops and scientists the time to hide and move my weapons.
And I would expect America's own liberals to do everything they can to hamper the President of the United States.
No we didn't, we were enforcing the U.N. resolution which directed Iraq to disarm. And since they said they had destroyed them all, they were ordered to turn over evidence of their destruction. Since they didn't do that then they never fully complied, having fallen short of their commitment under the resolution it authorized the UN to take any action needed to bring about compliance. He knows that, Kay is playing a political game here and it sickens me. There is still nothing on CNN.com about this story I know it shouldn't, but that just amazes me.
Too bad Saddam didn't cooperate more fully with the UN inspectors...he'd still be in power and you'd be a happier person. Without a job perhaps, but happier.
It's amazing that the thwarted WMD attack in Jordan has gotten so little attention and that the naysayers on this thread have forgotten that the Al Qaeda terrorists who were captured have admitted they worked out of Iraq for years on WMD.
As well, William Cohen, Clinton's Department of Defense Secretary, testified before the 9/11 commission that they knew that AQ were working in Iraq in 1997 on WMD.
You forgot to answer the question. Bad form answering a question with a question.
It's all right there in Kay's support that the dead enders and lefties quote as proof that there was no WMD in Iraq.
If it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious.
Yes, that's the way the binary works. It was designed specifically to be stored for long periods of time in a way that would prevent accidents. Saddam was enormously proud when he acquired this capability.
BTW, I was a Golf in the 2ACR. Were you at DLI in '88? I was there then learning Czech.
Are we in court?
We have two casualties as a result of the use of WMD, and we've found other WMD.
I don't care if they knew or not. Is it okay that they set up a roadside IED, and then suddenly out of bounds that it happened to have Sarin in it?
We don't need to prove intent. All we need to know is that they have used chemical weapons against allied forces in Iraq. Being there is no formal command and control structure on the enemy side, I think the whole question of 'intent' to use chemical weapons on us is moot.
