Quix,

States vary regarding emergency procedures. In Illinois, the IMERT system is a voluntary system. Volunteers go through a sort of boot camp and receive special badges and emergency instructions after completing training.

In addition, the hospitals have their own protocol for calling up personnel in emergency situations.

Much of this was in the works prior to 9/11. After 9/11, it was formalized and coordinated with State Homeland Security Departments. Training is ongoing with seminars and continuing education credits are an incentive for the medical community.

Thanks.

My wife left me the impression 25 years ago in Washington State that the State REQUIRED her and all other nurses to be on such a list and report accordingly as ordered more or less as though in a military structure in the event such a disaster was declared.

Interesting.

Thanks.
