G-8 has been bugging me... I think Iran said they won't attend, because of "Iraq".
Here's what I found for that time period:
June 8, 570 A.D. - Religion of Islam founded in Mecca.
June 8, 632 A.D. - Mohammed, prophet of Islam (Koran) dies, according to tradition.
June 9 - Holiday Moslem : Ashura (Muharram 10, 1416 AH)
June 10 - Holiday Islam : New Year's Day (Muharram 1, 1415 AH)
I hate it when important events and Muslim holidays overlap.
Of course I saw you found it later on the thread, sorry! (I checked "view replies" and figured you hadn't located the post yet.) ;)
These two holidays shouldn't be cause for concern. The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar and those holidays will fall on any given day of the year given enough time.
We are currently in the Islamic year 1425 AH. These two items refer to the dates on the Western calendar for those holidays in the Islamic years 1416AH and 1415AH, which would be 9 and 10 years ago.
