Last night, CST zone, in the WESTern sky there was something.
Just near the horizon, it was a shape like a 1/4 moon, along the BOTTOM of whatever planet it was. Venus, maybe? Would Venus show up like that, as a 1/4 moon? Say it was a round planet with only the bottom quarter lighted, would give the idea of what we saw. It gradually faded away or went below the horizon, anyway, it went away.
We were not drinking, drat the luck, and several of us saw it.
It could have very easily been the new crescent moon, if it was large enough to be seen by the naked eye.
Venus is a crescent now also, but I don't think you can see the crescent with the naked eye, at least my eyes aren't that good!!
I agree with what rickylc replied with. Venus is so far away that it will appear/refelct as a star rather that a planet with the nekkid eye. Interesting that you noticed it that low on the horizon though. Regards, ßß
