They are really beside themselves trying to turn public opinion and get their guy elected. It's gone way past the shadings of old - it's out and out blatant now - and there is more than the slightest chance of a very real backlash.

You see, they are crediting Al Queda with actually "avenging" the prison abuses. Obviously, Al Queda is using the story in a sick attempt to gain support for slaughtering innocents.
