Tex...you and I have had our disagreements and our agreements.
But this whole affair needs to be about the MP's who did the abuse.
Neither Hackworth or CBS DID any of the abuse's.
...and I much prefer to live in a Nation that is NOT afriad of looking at the abuses carried out in it's name...and deciding that it does NOT want it to happen again.
We, as a Nation, WILL ride out this mess...and when we get out the other side will be a better people..and have a better military BECAUSE of the openness.
We can handle it...

Red, what was gained by releasing those pictures? That is the real question.

One other point. If Hack had any real concern for the fair treatment of the MPs he would have told them NOT to release those pictures. There are no officers in those pictures plus they are damning to the MPs in the mind of the public. None of them showed any sign of being anything but enjoying themselves so to say they were "coerced" into the acts loses a lot of credibility. Those pictures GUARANTEE the maximum sentence for these GIs. Why in the heck would Hack be a party to doing that if he is indeed concerned for their fair treatment?

So you think someone should publish all files of all cases before the cases go to court? Let everything in civil & criminal cases in the country get a full airing?
Someone copied files to ongoing criminal investigations & released them to the media. Some people in the DoD could not even look at those files, as it would have messed with the judge that will be in charge of the case & the jury pool who will have to rule on it.
Part of our system includes getting a "fair" trial. When every one of the perps gets off, cuz technically, there was no longer anything resembling an untainted judge or jury to hear the case. Care to splain to me why the publics right to know everything as soon as the media gets it's hands on it is greater than our right to have criminal cases handled properly?

Yes, this nation will survive this unnecessary debacle (the release of the pictures). But what about Maupin??? Are his chances of survival diminished in anyway because of Hackworth's poor judgment? Are our soldiers in more danger? Are the nations chances of success in the ME lessened because of this untimely release? I think the answers are as follows; yes, yes and yes. Just my opinion.
