"Nonmilitary interrogators urged the soldiers to 'loosen up' the prisoners so they would be more cooperative, Frederick told his father."Hmmmm. Non-military interrogators are NOT CIA. The CIA is "paramilitary". All soldiers know that. Or should.

I'm not saying it was right, but this doesn't look like systematic abuse as much as it does systematic picture taking. However, I guess these pictures are mild compared to the body of an American's remains charred and hanging in the town square, or the ones of the people jumping from the WTC. There is more to come, much more. You should have heard this Arab American journalist on C-Span this morning. Other photos, etc. are already are being shown in Arab newspapers. He also stated that it is systematic.

I've also heard Hackworth on Liddy's radio show ranting about women in combat saying things like there's a scandal with all these female soldiers getting pregnant over there and other things like that.

What did the 17 members of Congress do? Perhaps Hackworth gave Mr. Lawson his (Hackworth's) lockbox address.

He also stated that it is systematic Yes, but that was my point. Was abuse systematic or picture taking? Did you see the post above and who the girl in the picture is related to. Now, that's also very bizarre.

Identify the 17 congressmen who didn't take action, thereby engaging in a cover-up, and watch how fast this matter disappears from Congressional oversight.

"If Military intelligence ordered this as a method of breaking down prisoners they would have known to keep tight control of something so explosive."
If military intelligence ordered the prisoners to be broken down to get information from them, someone from the intelligence division or other military department should have been on duty 24 hours a day (8 hours shifts), to ensure that it didn't get out of hand or that rules weren't being broken. There should have been someone overseeing all of this, or, there should have been a camera system installed to ensure that abuses were not occurring. In the long-term disciplinary unit at the facility I worked at, there were cameras with microphones all over the place. The only place there wasn't a camera was in the staff bathrooms. I got into trouble once because I told an inmate to "stop being such a pussy."

The pictures are not those of someone who is trying to document abuses. They are posed. Some relatives are charging that the pictures were posed for, for nefarious reasons as stated below.
[NY Times]:"...some relatives said they believed that the photographs were going to be shown to other prisoners to pressure their cooperation..."
Under the above nefarious scenario, the pictures would be posed for.
Look, either they can prove that they were command to take these pictures or they can't. And if they can't, then it will only make things worse for these six who are currently charged.

"JMO, Hack, does not. He is a McCain/Hagel clone, looking out for how much face time he can get by an adoring(for the day) liberal media."I agree that he's a McCain/Hagel clone...you left out Wussley...don't forget the "hero" of Kosovo and Rwanda. However, he knows better. If he's responsible for any of this, his lack of responsibility endangered lives, caused an internaional incident and may lose us the most important war since WWII. He's an officer. He DOES know better. Try the b@stard and let him spend the rest of his life in Leavenworth.

Are you saying that you do not believe Hack helped facilitate the release of the photos to the lamestream press? Since I thought this was one of the premises of the article, that is what I was commenting on. I also am aware of Hack's disdain for the military. Of course, I hope Hack did not facilitate the photos' release. But he very well might have. I depise Hack if this is what he did.
I do not think the Pentagon would ever need to release the pics. Do you? Who wants to see them? I don't. The written accounts are sick and sad enough. The Pentagon -- under Rummy -- surely would have released a written account at the APPROPRIATE TIME without all the LIBERAL SENSATIONALISM in this RIDICULOUSLY political year. What has happened instead is a bunch of dead carcasses have been thrown to the vultures.
As far as trained soldiers acting as humane guards, well, most can do -- and have done -- both tasks effectively. The majority of soldiers have not acted so cruely and crudely. It is said that there may be an intel tie-in or that it may be that some wackos went off on their own and showed their true nature. I don't know what is true yet. I do know that only wackos sever the heads of innocent animals; there is NO EXCUSE OR JUSTIFICATION in the world for that to have occurred EVER.
The full story will emerge and we will better see who else may be complicit -- as far as intel officers or higher command chain officers -- if anyone else.

You're right, I do have bias against the military brass that continually skate. Either they "didn't know" about a particular situation or they have some other weaselspeak excuse. I saw eight yrs of it on active duty, albeit during a previous "war". What is your direct military experience?
To: BfloGuy
"But when I try to imagine myself in the position of keeping POW's under control, I don't see making them masturbate in front of a woman on camera as one of my methods -- trained or not."
LOL! There's plenty of other ways of making the POW's suffer: Playing old films of Jennine Garafolo's, replaying Shirillary's screaming rants over and over again, playing Barbra Streisand records, making them watch reruns of Rosie O'Donnell's show. There's so much liberal mind-f*cking material out there, who needs to make them get naked and masterbate?
To: FreeReign
"What did the 17 members of Congress do?"Accused Rummy of a coverup and of not telling them in advance that pictures might be broadcast. Things that make you go "HMMMMMMMMMMMM". I want to know their names. We might have to start an email campaign and a petition DEMANDING their names.

sissyjane to be quite honest with you, I would not have known or figured out that the centcom press briefing that was sited yesterday was referring to detainee abuse.
I posted excerpts and links to 3 of the briefing on post #508 above.
The only one that rang bells to me is the one from 4/20/04 and that was because I remember looking at it via tv that day and when the journalist asked Kimmitt the question, he cut her off as if he was annoyed by what she asked and I wonder at the time what that was all about.

Read Thread linked at post #565. The article clearly states that there was poor leadership, and poor suprevision. If that is the case, then some higher up on the chain are going to have to pay as well.

>>Oh yes they can Howlin. If he leaked ANYTHING that was classified he is subject to Courts Martial assuming he is drawing a pension or other military benef<< They would have to reinstate Hackworth back on active duty to court martial him. Nice thoughts ladies & gents, something I'd like to see, but I doubt the political realities would let it happen.
To: Texasforever
orchestration That was the word my mind was searching for. I'm thinking along the same lines as you. Who are the "POWS" in the pictures? Could they not be POWs? I don't know, is showing pictures of staged abuse considered abuse?
