[history]
Lynndie England loved a good storm. During tornado warnings her mother would have to drag her back inside the house. Her teachers say she wanted a career as a storm-chaser.
Now, the perfect storm has found her.
From hometown hero to the reviled woman holding the leash . . . US Reserve
soldier Lynndie England with an Iraqi prisoner in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison.
Photo: The Washington Post
The petite 21-year-old army reservist from the quiet crossroads town of Fort Ashby in West Virginia is the most visible character in the controversy over the abuse of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison. She is the thumbs-up girl, the pixie-ish, T-shirted soldier, smiling, pointing and posing for the camera with naked and humiliated inmates.
Soon after the release of the photographs, Terrie England was on the telephone with her daughter while watching television.

Lynndie England's post-military career is already set.
Some men pay good money for that.

I'm having difficulty caring. The man on the leash is an enemy combatant - not someone who forgot to buckle up before driving to Kroger.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Stupidity and LCD in action. Please do not downplay it, we are Americans and should deal with this in a forthright manner.

What are the odds that she'll do a Playboy spread sometime soon...
Depends on what "Hustler" will pay for the exclusive, with leash.

Thank you.
I've been saying the exact same thing.

As I have stated on other posts, we don't judge our behavior to those of our enemy, we judge our behavior by OUR standards.Right on! This kind of behavior is wrong regardless of who the enemy is. (Not that ANYBODY knows for a fact that the man in the picture is an enemy.)
This is sad. Once upon a time, such things didn't have to be explained to people.

I know this is wrong, and I know that this woman and the others are quite rightly getting roasted for what they did...but something about that picture is just funny.

I wonder what people's reaction would be, if she were a man treating an Iraqi woman like that.

The presence of a few women in an otherwise all-male unit instantly creates sexual tension Actually, I was thinking using females as wardens might be a form of pychological humiliation with Islamic males.

She's a screw-up because she's an ignorant, attention-seeking bint with a mean streak.
AND she doesn't have any more common sense than a door-knob.
I agree, though. chain of command needs to be taken down

We don't fight the war forthrightly since "the end of major hostilities".
Why should we handle this any differently? /sorgasm

Once this blows over if I was Lynndee I would always be looking over my shoulder. I would not be surprised some arab group is drawing up a Fatwah against her right now ala Salmon Rushdie.

totally agree......
I would punish these soldiers but mostly I would go after the officiers who let this go on.....
a big, big problem in all of America is the lack of leadership.....whether it be church related, industry related, govt related or military related....
all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men(women) to do nothing.....

That little slip of a girl isn't strong enough to "abuse" the man on the floor...you can see he's way bigger than her. If she's guilty, she deserves to be court martialled....but if this was staged, the public deserves to know about it. She may not be strong enough but her 260 pound buddies right behind the digital camera taking her photo certainly are.
Taking private photos of unauthorized conduct for private jollies in a U.S. military installation during a highly politicized war where the American liberal news media will stop at nothing to sabotage the American war effort was not only incredible stupid but was also a massive security breach.

If she manages to stay out of prison, Lyndee OUGHT to be worrying about what her fellow soldiers will do to her!

We need to torture these people for about twenty years so THEY WILL FEAR US.
Silly approach for many reasons. By behaving like this the portion of the population who want to be free can't see any difference between US and What we ridded them of. Our Men and Women are in a position where they can't tell friend from foe. By making it a point of principle for the majority of the population we place our troups in UNNECESSARY danger.
I completely agree with you that the only thing these people respect is raw, brute, force. But it must be directed at those who are actively engaged in battle.
A very short review of history will reveal that on more than one occasion the Germans lost battles that they should have won - and in some cases had won and were just "mopping up", because they executed POW's. They made it a matter of principle.

Yep. Breathtakingly stupid. Unpardonably stupid.

"Well, according to the military, it is the fault of this soldier's leadership that she participated in this. The soldier is a private. She knows only what she is taught and directed to do. She has zero capacity to tell others what to do.
The Army didn't sign her up to think. They arranged for her to be under the guidance and direction of officers that were commisioned to do that. It is their direction she's under and it's their intent she has to work with.
"Yes, she made a very bad choice and did something very stupid.
She followed directions she was given. Hence, " But if a soldier is a screw-up, she is a screw-up because her leadership let her down."
Also other released prisoners have said, "these guys were being bad". Given their behavior and the directives of her superiors, it's easy to see why she went along.
