>>These aren't prisoners of war, they're terrorists.

Bob Baer has said the vast majority were rounded up in random searches and roadblocks. Or turned in by others.

He mentioned that by one estimate over 60% were/are innocent. As did Taguba's report.

He said the most egregious thing was that the Army had no procedures to have a process that determined the innocence or value of a detainee.

Well, I've read differing reports. But if indeed it's true that the Army has no procedures to determine the innocence or value of a prisoner, then that's just plain wrong.

"60% were/are innocent"

Was this 60 percent of the people in the photos? Or just, in general? My belief - and I could be wrong (doubt it) - is that the prisoners in the photos were the bottom of the barrel. Now, if these prisoners were but simple fishermen earning 2 cents a year for their 30 children, then the soldiers should be forced to walk naked through Baghdad with a sign, in Arabic, reading "I'm an idiot, please pelt me with camel dung", and then put in jail for a few years. That's another problem with liberalism - the punishment never fits the crime.

Otherwise, once again, torture, humiliation and the like are necessary for fast, reliable intelligence.

He mentioned that by one estimate over 60% were/are innocent.

And Sadr's men have claimed that all 30 of the people killed by coalition soldiers in Najaf were innocent civilians. All of them. Every single one. Coalition soldiers haven't managed to hit a single one of Sadr's soldiers -- they killed "innocent civilians" instead.

I don't believe them.
