I just hope you don't have some judges who think they know better than everyone else, and decide to put it in place by judicial fiat.

This is especially a danger when you have a bunch of WEENIES in your State legislature who pi$$ away opportunites provided for them by their constituents to put Constitutional Amendments in place!

This is what happened in MA, and beginning in a couple of weeks, homosexual 'marriage' will be 'legal' and there's not a damn thing the citizens of MA can do about it! Oh, the legislators passes some tepid Constitutional amendment provision that said no marriage, but allowed for civil unions (which provide all the bennies of marriage without the name) and we citizens, who didn't ask for what the legislature passed MIGHT be 'allowed' to vote on that in 2006.

Most Town Clerks in the state are even saying they're not going to check whether or not the folks applying for marriage licenses are even residents of MA. So there will be thousands of homosexuals traveling to MA for the express purpose of 'getting married' then going back to their own states to try to force it on the citizens there.

There are a lot of liberals in WA, but even here, its not as liberal as you might believe. This state does have a DOM law (Oregon does not, and between the two, I think WA is more liberal), and legalizing gay marriage was NOT on the agenda of the last session of the Legislature. There was debate over putting sexual orientation in the state's anti-discrimination laws, and it failed.

On the other hand, there was a lot of outrage in the Seattle media over the anti-gay-marriage rally, and some people even blamed Safeco insurance company (the Mariners ballfield is named Safeco Field, for you non-sportsfans), cancelling insurance policies. The Mariners' PR people said they would make the field available to the other side of the debate, and my prediction is, if they did so, they'd fill the place. The Mayday for Marriage people did not have a lot of public notice of the meeting, no doubt the attendees were solicited by word of mouth, or through church announcements, so a bigger opposition could not be raised. If the event were publicized on Seattle TV, you might have had a few more attendees, but you would have had a LOT more protesters.
