If the UK were accepted in to the Union, how many states would be added?

It's a long held dream of mine, don't think it'll ever happen though. The UK will have an Islamic theocracy first. :(

Anyway, the obvious split would be England, Scotland and Wales as full states. This leaves aside the status of Northern Ireland, which would probably have to be decided by referenda in the North and the Republic.
