Specter Wins 51-49 Republican Senatorial Primary: live thread
4/27/2004 | self

Posted on 04/27/2004 9:10:16 AM PDT by rudy45

My apologies if a thread already exists. I did a search on "Toomey" and found nothing.

I arrived at my polling area (suburban Philadelphia) at 6:45 am to hand out palm cards. The weather is terrific this morning, but turnout (I thought) was light (I had to leave at 9:15, but will be back).

Actually, I have a good feeling about Pat.

You are clearly more interested in winning elections than getting conservative & libertarian policy enacted.

You don't know what I'm interested in. I believe having a Republican majority in the Senate will help get conservative policy enacted, even if EVERY Republican doesn't always come down on the conservative side.

Specter is no friend of anyone on this site.

Now you speak for everybody on FR. I don't think so.

"You mean the Reagan that passed a Tax HIKE in 1986?"

Lemme see if I can make you understand how our government works: CONGRESS passes laws, including tax hikes.
In '86, our Congress was controlled by the Dimocrats - that is, the "other" guys.

So, it's not even a little bit accurate to say that Reagan "passed a tax hike."
In fact, it's so far from accurate, I'd almost say you were being "disengenuous."
You know, the fancy word for "lying?"

Those with extreme preferences

Is that how you characterize conservatives?
>

Look, guy. I don't characterize anyone. The political spectrum does it. The middle is a 5. Conservatism is a 2 or a 3. Liberalism is an 8 or a 9. Anything other than 4 or 6 can be called extreme, because it is more left or right than 4 or 6.

If you want a 2 or 3, you get to vote for one in the primary. You will probably lose because the votes are in the center By Definition. I don't make those rules. It's the nature of the gaussian curve of preference.

When preferences change, what constitutes a 5 changes. Until they do change, then being away from the middle means you aren't going to win. Now, not that what a 5 is doesn't hold constant all across the country. That's how RINOs are born.

It's not my doing. It's not Rove's doing. It's the definition of the political spectrum.

So I am not exactly overjoyed, but I guess it is just my nature not to go into a self pitying crying jag.

Dane, you know as well as I do that's what these people live for.

Well, I disagree...I give this state a great name. I just pray Bush isn't becoming a Don...he sure spends like him.

Fortunately, Kerry is a walking joke. But then I knew Clinton was too living in Arkansas from 1970-1983...but no one would listen (or worse, they thought Perot was smart - ha ha ha).

Don't forget the massive amounts of idiots we have that vote.

Toomey concession on now.

Make that another notch in Bush's list of achievements.

So - at best, Arlen will be with us 50% of the time. Which is 50% more of the time that we can count on for Hoeffel - who we KNOW will vote against everything good and right for our country.
>

This is just not true. The Senate roll call votes are online. He votes with the GOP far more often than he votes against it. Have a look at those raw votes. There are surprises there. Santorum votes against the GOP often, too.

You posted a lot of words, but you didn't answer my question. Do you consider conservatives to be "extremists"?

I'm dishing out nothing. I'm just offering some advice from one dejected Toomey man to another. I'm not bringing any smack for you or anyone.

You might have a different perspective tomorrow.

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

Huh? Hoeffel's the congressman for much of NE Philly. And Specter never wins a majority in Philly. Not even close. So if you think this year will be different, then you're crazy.

Bush just lost two Missouri votes in this family.

Because of Pennsylvania?

That's dopey.

You'll feel better a few days from now. To not for Bush is to vote for Kerry.

If you consider yourself a 2 or a 3, or a 1, then you are by definition extreme. It doesn't matter what I think. These are definitional things.

If you voted for GWB, you signed up for Arab Democracy. If you don't like what he's doing, you could always support Frenchie.

Oh really? When did he campaign on that fantasy? And where is that listed in the Bush Doctrine. Nice try, but the mandate is to destroy Al Queda and all other threats to our nation. Bloodletting in the hope that Arabs will (for the first time ever) welcome true Democracy is foolhardy to say the least--and a distraction from the War on Terror, not an aid. I did not sign up to implement Wolfowitz's delusions (although I have great respect for him on other matters).

I sent an email to Pat congratulating him, and expressing my disdain for Bush and Santorum in not supporting him.

Pat is a rising star...

Send him a note...it only takes a minute

...he's going to keep him there for 4 more years, your vote or not.

That's precisely how RINOs govern, as if conservatives are the enemy. They want us to vote for them because they are "electable" and then when we need a judge confirmed or a bill signed or some socialist bill killed, the RINOs stab us in the back and vote like a Democrat. If you don't believe me, just look at a)Medicare boondoggle, b)Campaign Finance Reform, c)Miguel Estrada.

It's sickening. The only thing that prevents your RINO ship from being abandoned is the realization that RINOs only screw us 60% of the time and Democrats do it 95% of the time. The only difference between a RINO and a Democrat is that the Democrat lies to the voters about what he is. The RINO just lies to his own party about what he is.
