Posted on 04/26/2004 9:09:05 PM PDT by SandRat
Attention all Freepers!!!
I got this in the mail today in a manila legal window envelope with only a return address of
Service Center
PO Box 10708
Goldsboro, NC 27532
for a return address.
Very official looking isn't it?
Well it's not!
It's not until you get to the very small small text at the bottom of the card that it reads:
Not affiliated with or endorsed by any Government or Medicare program.
I'm dropping it off with the local paper tomorrow so they can alert everyone here but wanted warn you all too.

The offending card was turned in on Tuesday to the local paper with the envelope it came in. The reporter was equally confused by the appearance of the card and envelope. He commented on the fact that no phone number was given either.
A check of todays paper and there is no story yet.

You should drop it off at the Post Office and speak with the Post Master. I'd be willing to bet this constitutes mail fraud. That is if they investigate the perp and find no assets or intention of paying out anything.

I want to play it out first through the paper to see if they will at least post a warning to others in community. I even told them where it was already posted on FR and an existing image existed to put in the paper.
Know that I'll get another one in the mail since I didn't fall for the first one and if the paper has or hasn't done anything then I'll go to the post office and file a complaint.
No action there, I'll go to the FBI Office on post.

Just get ahold of the BBB and the FTC on this. They can verify and investigate the suspicious looking mailer.

They will try and sell you a guaranteed life insurance policy with the social security benefit as the deductible.
Half the battle is getting you to mail in the card. If nothing else, they can always sell the info.
If you die before a certain time is up, you will probably only get back your premiums plus some interest. That is how they can guarantee coverage!
All these programs differ in small degrees. Check the fine print.
