Club for Growth Demands US Senator Arlen Spectre Endorse Rep. Pat Tooney (if he Loses Tomorrow)
National Review Magazine ^ | April 26, 2004 | John J. Miller

The Club for Growth is demanding that Arlen Specter say he'll endorse the winner of tomorrow's GOP US Senate Primary even it's US Representative Pat Toomey.

Isn't it sad we cant be sure he will do the right thing?

Why would he do that now? It will only create the perception that he thinks he's going to lose.

I think he should endorse Tooney before he loses.

LOL....... Specter does the right thing some of the time, I'd guess. He hasn't lost yet so why do something like that...... Now will he if he loses?.... good question.

I think the Spect will win by about 3 points tommorrow. I hope I'm wrong about that though. Go Toomey.

If I get this right, tomorrow is going to be a showdown (It's even in the polls). Let it go. I can't stand RINOs and Spector might as well be a RAT. I will trust the good people of Penn.

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey has a nice ring to it...

Oh well, it's nice to dream....just like the National sales tax or flat tax...or smaller government or cuts in spending and entitlements...

Then we have to wake up and smell the RINO reality...

Good strategy...might tilt leaners to Toomey if they become convinced that Specter is only in it for himself, which he is but I know Specter....

Do you really think he's going to lose? I love the Club for Growth, but you must admit their record isn't all that good in primaries.

It's dead even in the latest 3-day tracking poll. Toomey leads by 2% in the 2-day poll.

Fortunately, we'll never need to find out.

Did you have a chance to read this article on NR?

The writer makes a good point. If Spector wins, he's going to be OUR Zel Miller.

That's a good article. It makes that much more difficult to understand why Bush and Santorum didn't simply stay out of this thing when I read articles like that...

Well, Bush is just hedging his bets. He'll probably lose if Specter wins, but at least he thinks he's got a shot at winning over Specter in some circumstances in the future. Plus he gets to hide behind his "I endorse all incumbants" policy. As far as Santorum, he's got to be completely uncomfortable. But, he's just endorsing a colleauge. It doesn't make much sense to us on the outside, but imagine what it would be like to ask your boss (in front of your coworker) to fire him and your boss said no. What would your work environment be like?

Doing the right thing is a foreign concept to our Scottish lawyer. Toomey has values; Specter doesn't.

Ads very recently released by Specter admonish Republicans to vote for Specter, otherwise they exhibit party "disloyalty". Therefore, a loyal Republican will vote for Specter. This from a backstabbing "Republican" who votes with the Liberal Democrats 60% of the time.

In reality, a vote for Toomey over Specter, who would likely vote with Republicans (as opposed to democrats) 75% or more of the time, is TRUE loyalty to the Republican Party.

Also and even more importantly, a vote for PAT TOOMEY supports conservatives and conservative values.

Go PAT TOOMEY, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually think the more important question is - will President Bush, Sen. Santorum, and the NRSC fully support Toomey should HE win.

Another question is what's happened in the general election when they've knocked off the incumbent?
