FARMER FINDS RADIOACTIVE DEVICES IN FIELD
Last Updated Thu, 13 May 2004 11:00:50
SASKATOON - A farmer in Saskatchewan has found two cases of radioactive material missing for almost five years, easing the fears of officials who had worried it had found its way into the hands of terrorists.
IN DEPTH: Dirty bombs
The moisture density probes in the suitcases are highly radioactive. They had been missing since June 1999, when a man stole the pickup truck they were in from the University of Saskatchewan.
The probes contain the type of material security officials fear terrorists could use to make a "dirty bomb," an explosive device such as TNT packed with radioactive material that would scatter over a large area in the blast.(snip)

Guard Deployments Worry State Officials
By REBECCA COOK Associated Press Writer
With so many National Guard troops in Iraq, officials in some states are worried they could be caught short-handed if an emergency flares up at home.

Yet another reason to arm and prepare. Any catastrophic attack will leave the gov't paralyzed, at least for a while. Our safety is up to us. The gov't is only concerned with it's own survival, not ours. So be it.
Good find tmp02!

Reconcilliation...um being the baby of the siblings, I've always put every thing aside for family. Problem is many of them carried the hate of 'the baby' into adulthood.
As I told my bil it is not me who is not willing.I would forgive the wrongs, some very serious . Sadly, done after Mom died from emphysema.

In spite of the enormous taxes extracted from us by the government, all the king's horses and all the king's men are woefully incapable of responding to a real disaster. We are on our own. The emergency supplies in your basement are your insurance. The ham radio license you earned is your means of participating in the ability of the local community to respond to an emergency.
Most people in my town of 9700 people have annual incomes around $25K. They live hand to mouth. Many depend on state welfare programs. They will be completely unprepared in a disaster. One can explain their inability to prepare due to their limited finances. There are also plenty of people with adequate finances to prepare that are living in la-la land. The "Millionaire Next Door" book labels them as "big hat, no cattle". The spend everything they make on living the good life with no expectation that the rug may be pulled from under them.
Your preparations should include some additional food to allow charitable assistance if necessary AND a firearm to fend off the unprepared from stealing your resources by a force.

Just a quick post- I'm at a small college in central PA. I don't want to alarm anyone but this seemed important:
The GWEN system was activated last night. Currently the system is back to normal. The Gwen tower system is designed to assist US nuclear forces to communicate if regular channels are disrupted. We observed the towers activated between Emmitsburg Maryland and a bit north of Harrisburg PA.
Hopefully this was just for increased security.
