I agree with you ... except I am a realist. Our administrations own estimates before the war was that "ONLY" 1 in 4 Iraqis hated and or would die for their cause. But that adds up to about 5 million minds to change or eliminate. The reality is that we are not going to do what it will take to accomplish that. You and I might agree that we should, be we aren't.
Therefore we should bring our guys home and shut up about this stupid war.

I STRONGLY support the war on terrorists and islamists.
I do NOT support the "pattycake" with terrorists and islamists currently in evidence.
President Bush is not infallible. He's making what I believe is a political mistake.
He wants the Christians and religious folks to support him this fall... he doesn't want to see pictures of hiroshima and nagsaki. He want's that good feeling of fighting the just and limited war.
Unfortunately, that is EXACTLY what Islamic terrorist and their islamic supporters (ther moderate islamics) NEED to teach them the lesson that ALLAH is a LIE, and cannot deliver on his promise to bless the UMMAH's continuing jihad against the west.
Mecca needs to be reduced to smoking glass.
It will take a terrorist event or two here and there to get us ready to do what MUST be done... crush the islamist religion and it's support mechanism... open the internment camps... and take the gloves off our military, so they can fight to WIN DECISIVELY.
Will islamics pray to a smoking crater?
Good question by freeper Travis McGee.
I don't think they will.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess that when it comes down to it, you won't be voting for hochi kerry. I suspect in the booth, you will pull the bush lever.
having said that, I also think it is foolish to NOT HOLD HIS FEET TO THE FIRE on wiping out ISLAMIST TERROR< wherever it is supported. It is supported in the (apparently) autonomous region of fallujah. Fallujah was never subjugated in the original war plan. Error number ONE.
It should be admitted by our planners that we could have done a better job in pacifying fallujah and a few other places. And it will be.
We need to be able to hold bush's foot to the fire on that bush doctrine, without being labelled "democratic underground" as a perjorative.
since when did "holding the adminstration's' feet to the fire = trying to oppose the president"?
seems to me that helping him KEEP HIS WORD on irresistable force, imminent and unyeilding towards fallujah, would be a good thing.

Being humane at the cost of American lives is NOT acceptable, under any circumstances.

From what I saw on the news our guys are doing a great job taking them out without an offensive. They are doing a bang up job.

Shades of McNamara Peach. Shades of Viet Nam.We have soldiers going AWOL, this is getting messy. We are not there for social development we are there to kill the SOB's. (the bad ones).
I keep thinking back to Patton's line " The idea is to have the other son of a bitch die for his country".
The politics of this war is irritating the hell out of me.

Not Viet Nam. Its possible we don't need an all out assault to get the insurgents.

eye to eye.
ignore the "du" accusers.
they would support the administration if he were giving money to the taliban.
that kind of "conservative" support... we don't need.

possible yes.
proven NO.
with OUR kids, lets err on the side of caution and assume we DO need it. Bomb them into submission and THEN do the house to house rubble pile searches with body sniffing dogs...
frankly, I don't care for their alleged innocents.
they could have left weeks ago.
they should have.
time to carpet the place.

OK. Fine. You've convinced me that you think you know what you're talking about because you are experienced in something that I'm not experienced in, and that you're much smarter than I am, making my evaluations meaningless (in spite of my son's experience).
But.........if your experience makes you negative and pessimistic, then why is it that everyone who's had the experience you've had and is as smart as you are, isn't a hopeless pessimist like you are?
Never mind. Don't answer that. I'm just glad that I don't live in a dark tunnel like you do, and that there are plenty of people who don't share your pessimism.....
