Your post echos my sentiments exactly. I have not been in the water since Jaws. Even though I play the tape for my children before each trip to the beach and dum dum dum dum as we cross the Florida line, they still swim in the surf. I'm content playing Chief Brody on the beach watching for anything suspicious.

I was at Navarre Beach, FL during the filming of Jaws 2. Strapped to a pier was a 10 foot hammerhead that some fishermen has just caught. I couldn't believe people were swimming nearby. I also spoke with a gent who flies a small plane with banner advertising along the beaches. He stated that from his viewpoint he regularly saw numerous sharks swimming alongside the fools in the water.

That's me! I act as Chief Brody too. I decided then I didn't like swimming with the fishes and preferred my water chlorinated. Gives me the shivers to think about a 10 foot hammerhead being in the same water as I am.
