ELS, I didn't know that Egan had done that. Cardinal O'Connor made TWO trips to Rome to beg that Egan not be appointed. The Pope (or whoever appointed Egan) ignored him.

A friend of mine here in Milwaukee attended the North American College with Egan.

They all regarded Egan as the most overweeningly ambitious creep they'd ever met.

"Fast Eddie" was his nickname.
