Not only was Muhammad not able to read or write, but nobody anywhere wrote down anything about him or Islam for 3 generations after his death, and after Islam had conquered everything from Southern Spain to India. These pirates weren't keen on scholarship.
The Quran was first written down in Baghdad 200 years after Muhammad died.

ANd yet slamics are the first to complain that the Bible and the Talmud are distorted (when the Qumran texts that date from the time of Christ prove that the words have NOT been changed). Since the words of Christ were noted down during and soon after his death, I'd reckon their veracity is more certain than Mo's.
