The Hollywood Left: Wielding a Liberal Agenda
CBN ^ | April 15th, 2004 | Gailon Totheroh

Posted on 04/15/2004 9:24:00 AM PDT by missyme

CBN News) - In the 2000 elections, the Hollywood left actively campaigned for Democrats. Rob Reiner said, "You know we're national figures. All the people here are national figures, and our precinct is America. So this is our way of walking the precinct."

And more recently, actors like Sean Penn went to Iraq before the war there, to oppose it.

Penn said, "...People looking deeply into their conscience and really finding out what their attitude is and speaking up about it."

And now with the 2004 election in sight, Oscar winner Michael Moore says the conservative George Bush is too stupid to debate a smart Democrat. Moore commented, "I know you're thinking what I'm thinking. I want to see that debate!"

Why is it that so many in Hollywood and the entertainment world seem to hate just about everything America does these days? And why is President Bush an evil, greedy, lying warmonger for just doing his job?

An ad that was part of a Hollywood-influenced competition for anti-Bush ads showed a lie detector on a screen, and the President's voice saying "Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists including members of al Qaeda." Then on the screen it showed: "Americans are dying -- for the truth.'"

This ad won. In one of the other entries, Adolf Hitler was compared to George Bush.

The public has to ask why it was fine for a liberal president like Bill Clinton to advocate ousting Saddam from Iraq, when it is wrong for President Bush to simply carry out that wish.

So what the qualifies the Hollywood left to speak out? Noble character qualities? Integrity?

How much integrity was there in the standing ovation at last year's Oscars for confessed child rapist Roman Polanski? Harrison Ford accepted the award for Polanski, who skipped bail and fled the U.S. years ago.

Perhaps they are qualified by their training to think through issues? They are good at emotions, but critics say rationality does not seem to be their strong point. For while those deep emotions make for cinematic stardom, as when Martin Sheen uses fake blood to highlight his opposition to the military, they appear as cheap drama.

And despite the stream of actors clamoring to promote a liberal agenda, not everyone in the public is convinced.

One man on the street commented, "They're just actors. They're -- they don't even play themselves. You know what I mean? Their job is to be fake, to be someone else. Why would I listen to an actor?"

Yet how many voters are susceptible to listening to celebrity liberalism? No one knows, but certainly the Hollywood left will continue to have influence over politics. At the same time, their influence on popular culture through the movies themselves looms as large as ever, for good or evil.

The Commiewood Left never met an enemy of America they didn't like. They figure, anyone who hates America as much as they do, can't be all bad.

The anti-American bent of Hollywood is no surprise and the reason is simple. Unlike the rest of us, they rightly assess that they owe NOTHING to capitalism. Throughout history, artists and entertainers have been exalted, no matter the system, if anything, their power is somewhat limited by democracy.

Their wealth is earned in large part due to genetic good fortune and luck, which places a tremendous psychological burden on them, not the least of which is guilt, and an inordinate fear of being envied. Since their wealth comes from providing a product which doesn't satisfy necessities,(I'm not saying what they do doesn't have great value, it obviously does) they are apt to see economics as zero-sum, meaning what THEY HAVE, having come to them in the manner it has, has made others poor(er), thus the guilt.

The warped worldview which they come to adopt cannot embrace the system being fair to others, as their money seems to them so dirty. Imagine the quandry: you were "DISCOVERED", you're rich beyond your dreams, and "poor" people who idolize you are standing in line with holes in their socks prepared to hand you more of their hard earned money.

I don't watch any of these folks movies anyways, I am suprised to hear that about Carlos Santana, I heard him talk on a program about being a Christian and his family upbringing...Half those actors never even graduated from high school and I am sure do not even know how to spell Politics let alone, know anything about the subject...

they are apt to see economics as zero-sum, meaning what THEY HAVE, having come to them in the manner it has, has made others poor(er), thus the guilt.

Their economics ARE zero sum. Reese Witherspoon is "The New Julia Roberts", which means that Julia Roberts is washed up, over the hill. Kirsten Dunst getting a part means that Julia Stiles did not. And Hollywood only releases so many major movies a year. It's not like the old studio system where they were cranking them out like clockwork. Check back to see how many movies Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell made back in the '30s (LOTS !!! In their heyday practically one every few months.).

That means as fast as it can come, it can go for reasons over which they have no control. Before Mulholland Drive Naomi Watts was an over the hill ingenue starlet ready to give up acting and become a yoga instructor. So it is purely the luck of being in the right place at the right time and getting THAT PART. And without THAT PART it can all go away, as Suzanne Somers and Farrah Fawcett learned too late that one blonde with nice boobs is like another.

Athletes are zero sum, too, but their careers depend on generating numbers, not luck. The criteria on which they are evaluated are completely and totally objective. On hard work and talent, not the whim of the box office. So they tend to be conservative because they fulfilled the requirements of meritocracy. And a dissolute lifestyle will destroy those numbers because athletes, unlike movie actors, have to produce every day during the season.

So Ben Affleck and J-Lo must be over...not that I thought they were ever in, Just Hollywood's version of the flavor of the moment.

Now we have Brittney trying to do her scoop on Madonna's "Truth or Dare: video and I say "Why? this 22 year old girl they turned into a Sex Siren that has not a clue about life yet, just making oodles of money, Hollywood is like Selling your Soul to the Devil, there is always a price eventually to be paid....
