From the doom & gloom naysayer critics on this thread, I'd say the President could issue a declaration that America was going to cede sovereignty to France, and as long as he was one smooooth cookie when saying it, getting all the inflections perfect for the soundbytes, most of them would think he was a great President, doing a good job with a GREAT MESSAGE!!!

You're being ridiculous. There is not one of us here who would cheer a smooth speech of the type you mention. Of course the message matters. But DELIVERY COUNTS, particularly with the Great Unwashed who are likely to decide this election. And I think that Bush could've done better and I wish he had.

So called delivery is important because it demonstrates that he's on top of things, for his supporters. He will lose the election based on how connects with the conservative base. If he's found lacking, he could very well lose in November, and JFK and the Dems win by default.

Communicating with the American people is a duty, and one that's been lacking during his administration, that and using the damned Presidential veto. What's this guy thinking? That he's Calvin Coolidge?

And let me take it one step further. In My Opinion, a President that DOESN'T exude Hollywood, that DOESN'T remind me of Martin Sheen playing at being a president, that DOESN'T act like he's vying for an oscar makes me feel one heck of a lot better than one who tries to.
