He says that the newspaper will be issuing an apology in the next issue. And that the St. Pete Dems will be apologizing as well. I told him that the ad was irresponsible. And I reminded him that a mentally ill person tried to kill President Reagan over a movie star. I said that in he future the paper should show more responsibility in taking ads.Good job.

I guess the Secretary of Defense does fit into the order of succession - though it is a far reach to get to that point.
Let's see what the Secret Service does...I'd bet money they do nothing...

Say the same thing about Richard Cohen - or a probably member of Kerry's cabinet. You won't get the same treatment. That comparison is invalid. The members of Kerry's cabinet are not serving in any official government capacity.
It is against the law to threaten any employee of the federal or state government...even a lowly window attendee at the local DMV.
I'm tired of giving the Leftists passes for their irresponsible conduct while Republicans and Conservatives consistently have their feet held to the fire over any transgression, real or imagined.

Hannity coming on the air in a few minutes. It will be interesting to see if he discusses this ad.

I'd be curious to know what law it is in violation of. I am not doubting its existence, but haven't seen one as clear as the prohibition against mailed threats against the Prez of VP...

Actually, the Sec of Defense is not next in succession, so that law does not apply.

Heck, they pulled that stuff in Russia in 1918, didn't they??? Exactly, Laz. Even after 9-11, Americans still have that "it can't happen here" attitude about way too many things. FReegards.
To: PJ-Comix
Sure hope Hannity does talk about this or at least some FL Freeper gets through to him.
I'm sure he checks Drudge frequently.

Perhaps...but we do have many more safeguards in place as compared to Russia circa 1918....

So if I took out an advertisement and made a threat against YOU for instance in a public forum like a newspaper, would the police come and investigate? Would you press charges? Could I go to jail? Be fined?

The ad says "And then there's Rumsfeld who said of Iraq 'We have our good days and our bad days'. We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say "This is one of our bad days," and pull the trigger".
I think the context of the term "pull the trigger" in this case is quite clear.
That said; note the grammar, the punctuation, the nonstandard Democratic Party logo and the fact that these two use only their first names. We are not dealing with a sophisticated group here. Then again the Oklahoma City bombing wasn't carried out by very sophisticated individuals either.
