I have a friend (out-of-town) that will be attending - I hope he'll do a write-up in the paper (I'll try to get a copy).

Long may our Confederate ancestors, martyrs all, be remembered!

When these brave men are finally laid to rest, I and many others will choke back tears and observe a moment of silence. These were men.

If any protesters do show up, I would not want to be around
when Southern Pride comes into play. ;)

That's a great idea. I was thinking of a shot of Gentleman Jack for myself.

Bump.

Although my ancestors (three of them) served in the Northern forces, the war between the States is long since over.

These brave men are American heros.

Roger that. My ancestors served in the Federal Army, too, but I have immense respect for those men who fought for the Southern states. They are Americans all, and deserving of our honor.

Welcome home from your final patrol, gentlemen, and rest in peace.

<< My wife and I plan to travel to Charleston SC this weekend to attend this historic occasion and to honor the brave men who served aboard the Hunley. I've heard that as many as 30,000 people or more may attend this event. >>

I'm envious -- but 10,000 miles from home and can't make it.

Please offer a prayer of thanks to those brave souls from me?

My wife and I'll visit them when I'm home again.

Blessings -- Brian

Thanks for the post.

These brave southern men represent the best of our own who understood duty - honor - country - home and family...we are all proud of their sacrifice and bravery; much of which has, sadley, been forgotten.

Never forget...tell the truth of why they fought.

Deo Vindice!

A tribute to my fallen brothers at long last!

"From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition"

My husband and I were privileged enough a couple of years ago to be able to see the Hunley not long after George Dixon's legendary gold coin had been found. It was a totally awesome experience. While we were in Charleston we visited beautiful Magnolia Cemetary(highly recommended) and saw where the previous Hunley crew members were buried. We were told that that was where the last crew members would be buried later on. Oh, how I wish that we could be there for this ceremony. We love Charleston and spent a whole week exploring it last time we were there. I am so glad that those honorable men will finally be laid to rest in such a beautiful cemetary.
