Tomas, you draw the wrong conclusions.

We responded in 1998 to the African embassy attacks with a pathetic raid of several dozen cruise missiles against empty camps. That attack was correctly thought of by Bin Laden as beneath contempt, and cowardly.

To have "responded" to the Cole with a tactical strike would have been foolish. The Bush people wanted a military and diplomatic strategy to undo Al Qaeda, not simply to respond to the Cole attack.

You should know better. And you should know enough about Rice to know that she is manifestly not an affirmative action hire.
