I wonder where the best place to aim the rock is. . .
Having spent a considerable amount of time throwing rocks and things at the webs of what we called banana spiders in my youth, I'd say right in the middle. You get the spider at the same time. You seem to be hitting it pretty accurately from what I'm reading.
I did spend a lot of time hitting around the web personally, but it never took the web down even though it tore it up pretty bad. Even hitting the middle didn't take the web down completely.
Throwing rocks accurately is pretty tough. I practiced a lot. When I tired of missing big sticks worked the best as they caused massive damage to the web.
Lots of entrenched spiders in our government and it looks like you've gathered some pretty big sticks all on your own. The exteminators are out of town though and they won't come in even if called.

Thanks--that image helps me visualize the strategy. When I think about it, I guess my approach to aiming rocks has been to follow the strands connecting the edges of the web to the center.

My experience is different- much less direct but still effective. No need to chuck rocks at a web and risk missing when you can pluck a support thread- these are few and the first ones, the oldest ones, that the spider spins.

The weak point is the extreme right or left support thread... not the topmost in the middle but always one of the extremes. Pluck either one, and the web folds over on itself, ensnaring the spider as well as rendering the web very obvious and unworkable.
