My experience is different- much less direct but still effective. No need to chuck rocks at a web and risk missing when you can pluck a support thread- these are few and the first ones, the oldest ones, that the spider spins.
The weak point is the extreme right or left support thread... not the topmost in the middle but always one of the extremes. Pluck either one, and the web folds over on itself, ensnaring the spider as well as rendering the web very obvious and unworkable.
Whatever works for you piasa. I like the big stick method the most. It works really well for webs out of reach, which most usually are.
