Argentina and Uruguay both have a far larger GDP/capita than Thailand, Tunisia, China, or India.

Interesting.

I don't know what is wrong with Argentina. They have all of the ingredients including great resources and good land and whatnot to do well but they have been caught up in this Castillian drama play since before WWII which has included near Facism and near Marxism punctuated by repression.

I blame it on the Tango.
