Hi, Sweetie, how are you doing?
I'm glad to see that you are able to join us for the festivities on the Dose.
Pssst. Did you see Grammie and Mrs. B were having a brawl on the late edition of the Dose. Don't tell them that I told you okay?

You aren't too far out in the boonies to have problems at the school. I went to high school like that and we had a nutty English teacher who showed us pictures of homosexuals engaged in sex acts and asked what we thought of that. There are no boonies when it comes to bad curriculum. The state picks the curriculum and the local school picks from among the state selections. Which none represent the parents' beliefs.
If you can't homeschool, that's fine. Do what you can, but it isn't possible to be safe from bad curriculum unless you homeschool or go to a religious private school who hopefully picks good curriculum.
The teachers who teach in the boonies went to college where???? Not out in the boonies. At some leftist humanistic university.

I am having better days and nights. I had to see the dr. yesterday. I became ill in MS and just thought I had eaten something that really caused abdominal cramps. Well, it turns out I have a severe UTI. I am on Cipro for a few days plus another drug. He was really concerned about the bad days I had a couple of weeks ago and said any of us could call him if we just needed to talk. Oh! I stopped by a local drug store on the way to the dr. and told the manager about Janice. He started crying and nearly had me bawling. I am just now beginning to understand how many lives she touched. We just have to remember that she is in a much better place with no pain, etc. I have had so many dreams about her and in every one she is healthy and has the most beautiful smile.
Thanks for the post. I appreciate it.

I had forgotten that. Is that the only time they are happy? Everyone else would be somber at a funeral but not these folks.

I know we still could have problems. So far the kids are just in 4th and 6th grade. Again, I know that doesn't prevent weird teachers. But mr.h and I went to high-school with several of the teachers they've had so far, and I know several others who are Christians.
I do pay close attention to what they're doing. And mr.h and I talk to them about values issues often.
Now, next year when our son goes into jr. high, things could get touchy. I'm going to find out the curriculum and if they insist teaching about birth control, I will insist on teaching about abstinence. One of the home-ec teachers has actually had two children out of wedlock--different dads. Great example, huh? She's currently teaching at one of the other schools in our little consolidated group.
There are several parochial schools in a town about 25 miles away, and we are open to taking our kids there if need be. Unfortunately, as my dad (who taught in a Lutheran school for many years) pointed out, even those schools are only as good as the teachers there. But you do have a MUCH better chance of having a conservative curriculum.

Ahhh, Harry Connick, Jr.!!!!! On Barbara Bush's personal recommendation I watched the movie, My Dog, Skip the other day. Harry Connick Jr. narrated it.
If you haven't seen it and want a cathartic movie experience about kids and a very special dog, there you go.
Starring Frankie Muniz, Kevin Bacon and Diane Lane

How do you relply so quickly? It was only four minutes until your reply appeared. 1. Once you are ON the Dose, hit the F5 key evry so often to "refresh" the page and show new posts.
2. Ask to be added to the Dose ping list so when it first goes up, you can see it in "My Comments", click its link and scoot over here.
3. Go to "My Comments" page, accessible from the "Latest Posts" page, Latest Posts, and you'll find all the posts people have directed to you.

My best cat *ever* was a bright, blotched calico with a kinked tail named Tiki. Her mom belonged to some neighbors and I visited them to death while the kittens were getting ready to be adopted. I begged and begged for her but my mother said "We can't afford her." (Strange, very strange, coming from a woman who adopted stray cats like they were US savings bonds.) On my ninth birthday, my parents gave her to me with a red bow around her neck.
I trained her to do tricks. There are some pets with whom we bond in a way inexplicable. She was my little anchor in childhood.

I feel your pain .. my oldest is 11 What is even more painful .. is knowing I have 2 more girls to go throw this age ... Is that perchance a Freudian typo?

YOu taught a cat to do tricks? I've had many, many cats since childhood and have never been able to get any of them to do anything but what THEY wanted, WHEN they wanted, and HOW they wanted.
Cats definitely have personalities, tho! Our latest adopted one is fascinated with all of our other animals. He climbs in the guinea pig cage when I leave the door open to feed the GP. One GP is in an open cage, and Lucky (the cat) sits on top of the GP's teepee like shelter and bats at the GP when she tries to get out. She tries to get in with the baby ducks. She sits on the lid of the fish tank and sticks her little paws thru any little space. She is a sweetie!

Miss Eva here. I haven't been online much the past few days, decided to visit my favorite FReeper place, the daily dose, and happened across your cat comments.
Back in the early 70s, two of my sisters had for some reason taken the screen off their bedroom window. They had pet hamsters in their bedroom. I decided it was stuffy so had gone around opening windows, leaving them open for a long time. Apparently, the neighbor's cat came in their window, pulled the top of the hamster cage, took the poor little hamsters, who were never to be seen again. At least that's what they surmised when the hamsters turned up missing, fingers pointing directly at me as the party responsible. Tragic! Tragic to kids anyway.
I will never live that down; they STILL like to tell about the time I allowed the neighbor's cat in w/ the resulting loss of hamster life.
So, anyHOO, seeing your post on your sweet kitty that's so interested in your other pets reminded me of the not-so-nice cat that came in the open window.
