Policy Protecting Transgender Students Under Fire

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. A school board in Orange County refused to implement a state policy that protects transgender students (search), saying the measure is immoral and promotes transsexuality.
The Westminster district's five-member board voted 3-2 Thursday to reject the anti-discrimination policy during a meeting that drew hundreds of parents and teachers.
Westminster is the only one of California's 1,425 school districts to refuse to endorse the 1999 state law that gives boys who consider themselves girls and girls who regard themselves as boys the right to pursue discrimination complaints.
Donna Scott, a parent, said the board should obey the law.
"How dare you use my child as a human shield for your discrimination, your fear, your hatred," she said.
Board members Judy Ahrens, Blossie Marquez-Woodcock and Helena Rutkowski argue that adopting the state's definition of gender would be immoral and promote transsexuality.
Jack O'Connell (search), the state Superintendent of Public Instruction, sent a letter to the district asking the three members to change their minds.
"If you refuse, I will take all available steps to compel your compliance," O'Connell wrote. "Do not victimize the very people you claim you are serving."
The district, about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles, serves 10,000 elementary and middle school students. More than $40 million of its $68 million budget comes from state and federal sources.
The state Department of Education has threatened to pull millions of dollars if the district is not in compliance with state law by April 12.
Other conservative school boards in Orange County (search) have in recent years moved to ban a high school's gay-straight alliance club and tried to sue Mexico to recoup the cost of educating immigrant children.

"How dare you use my child as a human shield for your discrimination, your fear, your hatred," she said. Why are opponents of the promotion of sexual perversion always accused of being afraid, as with the use of the word "homophobe"? And who said anything about hatred? If these people could tone down the hyperbole just a smidge, there might be some rational discourse on the topic - but I doubt it.

Maybe what we really need is a Constitutional Amendment that requires a "Separation of State and Sex".
That's the final straw...I wasn't homophobic before..I just didn't agree with that lifestyle..I thought it was weird and I was content in leaving them alone, giving them no thought whatsoever, while I lived out my boring heterosexual existence.
No more....I am now a full fledge Homophobic......... I feel so free, so liberated, so fresh, at peace with myself and my newly discovered identity..... I am born again!! I sure hope it's still legal to think so freely!!
I wonder, if I am a homophobic living in Washington State, and I travel to California, will I be subject to arrest in that State?? How about if I don't actually Hate...instead, I am simply very disgusted and don't want to share the same airspace with them??? Will I have to do prison time???
When is this insanity ever going to end?????

"How dare you use my child as a human shield for your discrimination, your fear, your hatred," she said. How dare you wrap yourself in the flag of "protecting your child" to push a radical leftist agenda on the rest of us? If your gender-confused tyke isn't being adequately pandered to, I suggest a private institution where his easily-bruised psyche can be coddled.

Maybe what we really need is a Constitutional Amendment that requires a "Separation of State and Sex". ROFL!!! I _like_ that!!! However, make such a proposal in real-time, and the Universal "health care" lobby will kick into high gear. Remember, it is your right to have to pay for sex-related STDS, sex-changes, etc, under the "Universal Health Care" agenda. But the mantra would also have to be bigger: Clinton did sex while in office overseeing both state and fed. So, would he get an exemption to have sex on the people's dime?

I am so sick of this loose definition of gender and people calling themselves or others "transsexuals."
Listen up, pilgrim: God does not make mistakes. If he wanted you to be a gender other than what you were given during gestation, you would have been that gender. Period.
And do not waste my time arguing that, because any argument that runs against what I just said (God does not make mistakes.) is absurd and quite frankly I just don't wanna hear it.

If your gender-confused tyke isn't being adequately pandered to, I suggest a private institution where his easily-bruised psyche can be coddled. What's odd is that the parents' first response seems to be to defend and to encourage their child's gender confusion instead of getting psychological help for him. A 14-year-old boy who thinks his genitalia must be lopped off in order to make him happy is not a well person.

It's all in the words used.
Rather than calling it "forcing acceptance" by the majority, it sounds so much better to call it "defending" a minority.
Changes the whole character of the players...especially in print.

When is this insanity ever going to end????? When He returns with a cloud........tic, tic, tic, tic
Most don't realize that this will take control away from a parent that objects to their son wearing a dress to school.
If you guys here in CA want job security, just put on some lipstick and a dress when you go to work, no one would dare fire you.
God is good, I am retired from that insanity.

First of all, if a teen "thinks" they are a girl/boy when biology says otherwise, they need mental help, or at least hearty ridicule by their peers.
Certainly, screwed up adults who have similar illusions about their sex shouldn't be part of the plan.
