Interesting that so many statements and even some posted headlines here are using the word "Lies."
LE and this morning's press conference never used that word.

You're assuming alot. At no time during the search did the parents give any hint that this has been a pattern of behavior, in fact, they said the opposite. What made this so believable, was the fact that hundreds of people travelled to Wisconsin from her home town to look from her. They said she was loved by everyone. That's the difference. Until we know the truth, I still think she should be given the benefit of the doubt. After all, SHE didn't call police, her family did. Maybe she didn't even know people were looking for her.

I don't think so. This is Madison. They are just barely to the right of Berkely. I understand your point .. but this case went national and she is in trouble

Get over yourself.
You ever lived with somebody like this?
Have you got a clue how destructive somebody like this can be?
I speak from VERY profound experiance.
From what I hear from you, you are obviously in a state of blissful ignorance.
Let's hope you get to stay that way.
I truly mean that.

Yes indeed. She needs some help. It is obvious what is going on...she needs some mental health advisors. What she did was wrong...but she does not deserve to be put in jail.
I hope they get her the help she needs.
Sad case indeed.

I agree totally with you. We've taught him that he is accountable for his actions and does know right from wrong.

Unsubstantiated abductions becoming national news is not a good thing.
The media operates on ratings not on HELPING.

Thanks.
It's VERY personal for me!
DIDN'T help that a lot of my patients in the health-care industry were often "Emotionally Challenged".
NOTHING like getting punched in the nose by a 250 psychotic to engender sympathy!
Fortunantly, I'm little and used to be quick! LOL!

If my child were missing, and had a pattern of this kind of acting-out, chronic or acute, I would never tell a press conference that they should call off the search, my child is probably acting out...even a nut can really be abducted.

See?
Your family is living proof!
In many cases it CAN be done!
Just requires patience, time, a good example and a VERY firm hand!
Which, sadly, not enough parents are willing to invest in!
Kudos to you!

There is no evidence that this co-ed had any pattern of this kind of behavior. The assault last month was odd, but it WAS investigated. I think this got so much attention because the girl seems so normal. A popular student, lots of friends. Etc. It's not the parents fault.

Geez... so much for the Amber Alert then. The police usually try to get that out as quickly as possible even before they run around trying to validate everyone's story.

There's also the FACT that jail rarely improves anyone.
Accountability, yes. Treatment where appropriate, sure. Putting someone who is already erratic in the hell-hole we call a "justice system" --naw.

Thank you for your thoughts, I really do appreciate it. I've been fortunate enough that my son has never been lost in the woods, that I can't even imagine. I saved the links you gave me, so i can look at when I have a little more time. I'm so glad that I found this place everyone has been wonderful. It's true, you do learn much at Freerepublic.
To: Dr. Eckleburg
They did say she made up the story. Isn't that a lie?
To: bearkat
I don't think they use Amber Alerts for over-18s like this co-ed...
This young lady got so much attention because there have been a lot of incidents in her area, and...it was just a story with 'legs.'
To: bearkat
I personally feel that the Amber Alert will fail over time. Looks good on paper but at the end of the year or decade or however they test it will the stats bear out its success? I think not.
