You have jumped to some conclusions.

I would say that she should be charged.

She should be made to understand what she did.

The punishment should fit the understanding however and after the medical people have seen her and recommended a treatment.

It is obvious, that she cannot be running loose right now.

Any monetary fine would be useless and her parents would pay it, so I would order court supervised probation after involuntary hospitalization for a period of time.

I think that would be better than to just jail her for the offense. This is the correct way to handle mental illness and it does not let the person off or excuse the behaviour.

I feel VERY sorry for her parents.

You can be the best parent in the world, and sometimes it just doesn't work.

In a better day she would have been put in a care facility - not allowed to "make a choice." God bless.

Yes .... very true.

We had been told by several judicial courts in dozens of states around the country, that if my daughter was able to sleep in a doorway, not a threat to others, and could eat from a garbage can, she could not be admitted to a facility against her will.

It is a sad commentary from the overeaction to the harsh treatment in mental health facilities a half century ago.

I feel for her family. Worried for days about her, and now this nightmare.

This should not have become a national story period. It was and still is a local issue. If you want to pass blame then blame the media frenzie in that town and all the REPORTERS who did not do a damn thing to help find her or investigate anything other then WHAT IFS and WHAT NOWS....

I sympathise.

My daughter is mildly autistic. We didn't find out til she was 8. SO frustrating to not know what was causing her weird behavior!

BTW, before anyone here jumps on me, we hold her accountable for her actions, and she KNOWS the difference between right and wrong.

Just because she's got problems doesn't mean she can't think and learn.

Let me drag some AS links over here. Might help some folks who are struggling to figure out their son.

So this grand reservoir of sympathy you manage, extends to felonious drug-addicts, folks with anger management problems, and sociopaths

Yes, even to newbie trolls like you. Welcome to FreeRepublic, I hope your stay here is brief.

News Now reporting she was found in a fetal position in the marsh, and when asked what she was doing there, she replied that she came to the marsh to see the geese.

She's off the beam, and the abduction story is to save face, a cover.

Why punish the parents for the 20 year olds actions.

The cops can write it off as training.

Charge the feds for homeland defense.:-)

The Wisconsin taxpayers should revolt anyway.

They are taxed to death. I know, I once lived there.

Thank you for your concern and warning. I am a nurse and not unfamiliar with these drugs. I knew something was wrong when he was a toddler. I actually did think he was ADHD. I did put up a stink about medicating my child and resisted until he could not function is school. But nothing has ever really worked to help him to this point. It has been hell for our little family

Jeffrey Dahmer's family probably went through hell too, but that does not mean no one can write the unvarnished truth about him and the fact that girl has a family should not mean that she is exempt from any negative comments or skepticism.

I thought it bacame national because they were looking for a person who had been abducted and we were all supposed to be on the lookout for her? I thought the media spread news like this in an effort to help FIND people who may be taken across state lines.

I just sent you a long FReepmail. I know a kid lost in the woods sounds scary...it is....and some cases are harder than others. Right now you're feeling at the end of the world. But catching it early gives you SO MANY more tools. Anyway, children are always blessings and in a way so are the problems we get in our lives. It's just sometimes hard to see it. Hang in there. There will come a time when this will just be NORMAL LIFE for you and your child and you won't be grieving anymore. I wish I'd known when my son was four that when he was 12, we would see most of his "deficits" as strengths, his disability as ARMOR.

There are pains and sins that will never burden my son's soul like they burden most of the rest of us. He is shielded from some temptations and miseries by God's special gift to him...even though when he was four, we just didn't know. Please look at these:

and especially:

http://www.our-kids.org/

That last is the best thing that could happen for a new parent who is dealing with a scary and serious diagnosis of any kind. You will never get flamed there, and no matter what issue comes up, SOMEONE has dealt with it and has support and innovative suggestions.

She needs to be thrown in jail, that's what she needs. She wasn't abducted by anybody, anywhere and why the police are treating her and her family with kid gloves is the real disgrace in this case. They should not waste one more tax dollar on this nut cases claims.

Interesting; you acknowledge that she's a "nut case," but you still wish her thrown in jail?
